Interview with Noreen Hynes Managing Director of Polymer Recovery.

Polymer Recovery was founded in 2010 to operate a plastic recycling plant in Portarlington, County Laois. We can recycle most kinds of waste plastic including all packaging materials, industrial plastics, rigid plastics such as toys, plastics from car bumpers, cabling, farm film and any other kinds of non biodegradable plastics that would otherwise go to landfill sites.

With mounting international concern over the environmental impact of landfill and the continual use of valuable and finite natural resources, Polymer Recovery carry out a mechanical process that allows the recycled plastics to be used again in the manufacture of plastic. We can also carry out waste audits for companies and recommend solutions to their waste recycling problems.

There is legislation covering the collection and treatment of waste but this legislation is not always effective because there are not always solutions for processing certain kinds of waste such as plastic. This is why over 224,000 tonnes of waste plastic went to landfill sites in Ireland in 2007.

Most people do not want waste to be incinerated, they would prefer to recycle any waste that is available thereby creating employment and treating the waste as a resource. This way no waste will go to landfill sites which under EU legislation must be reduced in size over the next few years and each EU country has their own targets to meet in relation to this.

Polymer Recovery has a solution to the waste plastic issue and operate their waste plastic recycling plant in Portarlington, County Laois.
