How Can I Help?
Without volunteers it would be impossible for The Luci Center to exist. The many helping hands and hearts walk beside our riders, support them as they face incredible challenges, groom the horses, saddle up, muck the stalls, help at fundraisers and offer energy and love beyond what would ever be expected. The Luci Center is proud of the many volunteers that have given thousands of hours in support of the program.
If you would like to volunteer please take a moment and return a completed volunteer information form. All potential volunteers must attend volunteer training (check the schedule on our home page for schedule details).
General training – required of all volunteers – covers safety issues, grooming the horse, tacking up a horse, familiarization with the barn and being around horses. Volunteers are also trained in mounting and dismounting procedures and sidewalking with a rider. We will cover general information on disabilities and the benefits of riding to the disabled individual. No previous horse or therapeutic riding experience is necessary – the only prerequisite is the desire to learn and be involved!
Leader training is held for those individuals interested in learning how to lead a horse safely and effectively. In a therapeutic riding setting the leader has the responsibility similar to having the keys to a car and driving down the road.
