11:15 - Broadcasting in Post Conflict and Transition Environments. David Bailey (davidbaileymbe.com)

David Bailey is a "Digital Influence Activity Specialist" and currently researching how social media can support conflict and post-conflict areas. In June of 2010 David moved to Kabul, Afghanistan to join the NATO (ISAF) radio station, Radio Sada-e-Asadi as its Editor in Chief.

12:00 - Community Radio, the New New Media? Arthit Suriyawongkul (Mekong ICT)

Activist and open source advocate Arthit Suriyawongkul presents his view on broadcasting in relation to recent political movements in the Mekong region. The decentralized architecture of community radio, more than the internet, is often used in these areas to avoid closure by the authorities, allowing a freedom of speech during political conflicts often impossible with web tools.

West Africa Democracy Radio is a trans-territorial radio station set up to facilitate the exchange of development information between and among countries of West Africa. WADR’s mission is to promote and defend the ideals of democratic and open societies, advocate for mutual understanding & respect between and among individuals and communities, promote peace and human security, transparency and accountability in governance, regional economic integration, and social and cultural development amongst the peoples of the region.

14:00 - Why the Future of Radio is Hybrid. James Cridland (james.cridland.net)

James Cridland has worked in radio since 1989 as an award-winning copywriter, presenter, and internet advisor. In 2001 he joined the original Virgin Radio in London, where he was Digital Media Director. In 2007 he joined the BBC to work on the BBC iPlayer for radio. Since leaving the BBC in 2009, he has worked for a variety of European private radio operators, the receiver manufacturer PURE, and audio blogging platform Audioboo.

Golo Foellmer of Martin-​Luther-​Universität Halle-​Wittenberg evaluates the benefit of open, cooperative forms of radio in comparison with open forms of music.

Henrik Moltke is a digital activist, media professional and advisor who has worked for Creative Commons and Mozilla Drumbeat. For ON2 Henrik will talk with Andrea Goetzke of newthinking communications about his background and experience with broadcasters, production and open licencing.

Hacking broadcast and IP technologies - Workshop Room 1: Nick Piggott & RadioDNS

RadioDNS is a collaborative project to enable the convergence of radio broadcasting and IP-delivered services. It aims to significantly enhance the experience of radio listening using scalable and resilient broadcast technology in tandem with additional information via IP.

This workshop invite participants to create their own RadioDNS application with RadioVIS. A test station, webservices and other metadata are supplied - just bring your own novel ideas on how you would visualise radio.

Liquidsoap Workshop - Workshop Room 2: savonet.sourceforge.net

Liquidsoap is the open source audio stream generator of the Savonet project, notably used for generating the stream of netradios. The Savonet project develops tools for multimedia streaming since 2003, with a specific focus on netradios. 11:00 - Open Broadcast - User Generated Radio. Oliver Hagmann (Open Broadcast)

Open Broadcast is Switzerland’s first user generated radio. It broadcasts the content developed by the Open Broadcast Community on the Open Broadcast Platform – the thesis of the experiment being: a swarm of committed users (principle Crowdsourcing) generates a program, which is just as good as that of a conventional editorial staff.

11:30 - Heath Robinson Audio Engineering and the Acceptance of Failure. Chris Weaver (resonancefm.com)

Resonance104.4fm is the world’s first radio art station, established by London Musicians’ Collective. It started broadcasting on May 1st 2002. Its brief? To provide a radical alternative to the universal formulae of mainstream broadcasting. Chris Weaver, Resonance's Production Manager guides us through their audio experiments on a shoestring budget.

12:00 - Radio 1.0 meets Radio 2.0. Lukas Weiss UNIKOM and Stefan Tenner (Radio CORAX) with Thomas Gilgen & Nick Lüthi (Open Broadcast).

A discussion with representatives of Unikom, the Swiss association of
independent radios, Radio Corax and Open Broadcast looks at Switzerland's independent stations, free radios in Germany, digitalisation, editorial collaboration through the web and software solutions.

Daniel James, director of 64 Studio Ltd and the author of Crafting Digital Media demonstrates a selection of Free Software real-time audio tools of interest to radio presenters, station engineers and developers.

16:15 - MPD, a server-side application for playing music. Max Kellerman (Music Player Daemon)

Music Player Daemon (MPD) is a flexible, powerful, server-side application for playing music. Through plugins and libraries it can play a variety of sound files while being controlled by its network protocol.

17:00 Mixxx in the Studio Sean M. Pappalardo (Mixxx)

Sean M. Pappalardo AKA DJ Pegasus talks about the radio implications of the open source DJ software Mixxx, both now and in the future. Mixxx has the DJ world's most advanced MIDI controller handling, can broadcast directly to Shoutcast and record mixes directly to file, and will be able (in a future version) to connect directly with an external mixer like a radio console, DJ mixer, or other sound board.

17:45 - Enhancing weblink perception: QR-codes for Radio. Ulf Stoffels (ulfstoffels.de)

Ulf Stoffels presents ideas towards enrichment of radio programs with QR-Code-style codes or tags, but in audio format, which could help connect the programs and websites of radio stations. Ulf is a Media Science student at the University of Paderborn interested in Usability, Radio, CC-Music and Processing.

  • radio aporee: Miniatures for Mobiles - Workshop Room 2: Udo Noll
    radio aporee founder Udo Noll will show particpants how to connect sound, space and narration with his collaborative sound mapping project and new experimental radio app. radio aporee is a project-in-progress that doesn't want to augment nor subtitle your reality. Its intention is to intensify and enrich the experience and perception of the world around you, while listening to it. Think of it as a new form of radio which literally surrounds you, and which may, if you like, dissolve the borders between listening and performing.
