Museum of East Tennessee History

Open 7 days a week, the Museum of East Tennessee History showcases the history of the region's 35 counties through the award-winning exhibition, Voices of the Land: The People of East Tennessee, the East Tennessee Streetscape, and regularly changing feature exhibitions.

Knox County Archives

Uninterrupted since 1792, the Knox County Archives, a branch of the Knox County Public Library, receives, processes, and preserves the non-current, permanent records created by county government. The Knox County Archives provides information on the origins and history of the court systems, court records, genealogy, and the history of the county.

1885: The Board of Alderman established the Knoxville Fire Department and hired the first 15 firemen.

1775: Settlers from Greasy Cove consummated a treaty with the Cherokee at Sycamore Shoals regarding the purchase of territory which included the present-day Unicoi County and parts of Green and Washington Counties.
