Independent Comic Stereotypes

This was what I was trying to get at with last Sunday’s comic.  After a while, all of the conventions start to blur together, and you start seeing the same types of people over and over again.  These stereotypes aren’t based on one person, there based on at least four people squished together.

The Guy Who Would Rather Work for Marvel or DC - I’ve seen plenty of artists where it’s obvious that their independent comic is intended to be a springboard to be working for the big two.  There’s nothing particularly wrong with that.  It’s just not the direction I’m going in.

Fast Talking Douchebag Who Thinks He’s Reinventing the Industry - I run into at least one of these at every convention.  I secretly envy them.  I wish I had half their energy and enthusiasm.  I’ve had to accept that I no longer have the time or energy to try to reinvent the industry.  It’s sad.

Juvenile Anarchist - I have many, many friends in this category.

Arts-and-Crafter - Another group I envy.  I wish I had their eye for color and value for hand-crafted goods.

“Sensitive” Autobio Cartoonist - Yes, I’m a stereotype.

Middle Aged Man Trying to Reconnect with his Inner Twelve-Year-Old - This accounts for at least 70% of the comics industry.
