Why is it called Palatines to America? Who were the Palatines? The simple answer is they were Germans, but as always, it is much more complex. This English word was attached to Germans by the English Queen Anne in 1708 and has remained as the descriptive word for the early emigrants... continue.

November 10, 2011 German Origin Physicians in Indiana: Dr. Robert McDougal, who is a life member of the Indiana Chapter of Palatines to America, has prepared a remarkable and valuable document that contains the names of the more than 300 physicians of German origin who practiced in Indiana in the early years. After the alphabetical listing of physicians that includes as much information as Dr. McDougal gleaned from all sources, he has listed midwives, and followed that with a history of medicine in Indiana.

The amount of information varies from person to person, but in any case, it is well worth examining. Many times the German hometown is given, and information about parents and siblings. The bibliography might offer clues to other places to look for family information. Palatines to America is grateful to Dr. McDougal for permission to post this pdf file.
