The Applied Quantitative Methods Network (AQMeN) is led by a team of academics from eight Universities in Scotland. It is a three year project funded jointly by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) as part of the ESRC Quantitative Methods Initiative. Our main objective is to build capacity in the use of intermediate and advanced level quantitative methods amongst the social science community in Scotland and beyond. AQMeN now has over 1300 members with an interest in the application of quantitative methods (see Summary).
The 2012 Annual Lecture will be presented by Stephen Raudenbush, who is the Lewis-Sebring Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago and Chairman of the Committee on Education. Stephen's talk will focus on causal inference in the social world and the spillover effects of social interventions in criminology and education.
Recently two new awards have been made following the third call of AQMeNβs Collaborative Small Grants Scheme. David McCollum from the School of Geography, University of Dundee, will investigate trends in βA8β migration to Scotland and the UK, and AQMeN partner Mark Shephard (University of Strathclyde) will lead a project to examine how different cohorts of youths experience and gain from being youth parliamentarians.
AQMeN's quarterly Newsletter provides updates on upcoming events, current news and a forum for members of the Network to write about issues, ideas, published work or ongoing research that may be of interest to others. The Latest Edition was published in January and Past Editions are also available.
