Study to Identify Rural Triggers of Asthma Attacks

Asthma has been looked upon as primarily an urban problem probably exacerbated by air pollution from cars and heavy industry. According to CDC research, it turns out that asthma is just as common in rural areas. To identify triggers that cause asthma attacks, a research study is currently underway that uses GPS enabled inhalers to record when and where medicine was needed. Collecting enough information over a substantial enough amount of time may help people spot which locations and environmental factors trigger an asthmatic reaction. The Rural Midwest Asthma Study has signed up 135 participants that will be hooking up their inhalers to their computers every few days to upload data to the study center for interpretation.
