Connect2Mason.com is currently accepting applications for a variety of positions.  

Connect2Mason’s position in an ever-changing world of news and entertainment makes it the ideal place to work for students interested in pursuing careers in journalism or communication. By working at C2M, students will learn to work with others, will develop and fine-tune their written and verbal communication skills and will gain experience working in an exciting, deadline- and detail-oriented environment.  

Working in a field of digital journalism provides C2M staff with invaluable experience in a fun, university atmosphere. The positions available (described in full below) offer a wide variety of opportunities for students who are interested in journalism or simply wish to learn more about Mason. Whether you are interested in reporting, editing or photography/videography, C2M provides opportunities for you to develop your skills and connect with the Mason community. 

Holding a position at C2M could provide you with quality resume material, letters of recommendation and connections that could help you obtain internships. Other positive results include learning more about the people and happenings at George Mason as well as meeting and working with people who will help challenge and encourage you in your pursuits.

Managing Editor

Essential Duties
The Managing Editor is responsible for ensuring the website is full of eye-catching, newsworthy and timely content three days a week. He/She ensures that all content (stories and photo/video) is submitted and uploaded daily, editing before uploading. He/She is responsible for at least one story a week, covers breaking news and monitors other online news sources for Mason content. The Managing Editor is responsible for 15 office hours a week (five hours each day). Position is paid.

Copy Editors (2)

Essential Duties

The Copy Editor is responsible for copy editing content on the site three days a week. He/She reads and edits all content (stories, blogs, captions) by fact-checking, enforcing AP style and C2M style, and correcting content and grammatical errors. The Copy Editor is responsible for contacting reporters or the Assignment Editor if there are any problems with a story or if the reporter consistently makes the same mistakes. She/He is responsible for writing at least one story a week and helps the Managing Editor cover breaking news. The Copy Editor is responsible for 15 office hours a week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, work-study and for-credit situations.

Photo/Video Staff (2-3)

Essential Duties
The Photo/Video staff is responsible for collecting photos/videos as outlined by the Photo/Video Editor and covering at least two events a week. Each staff member is responsible for one office hour a day each week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, work-study and for-credit situations.

The Administration Reporter is responsible for all coverage regarding the Mason Administration. He/She is responsible for at least one update on this beat a day and at least one major story a week. This beat reporter is responsible for developing and maintaining sources within beat and contacting them regularly for stories. The Administration Reporter is responsible for at least one office hour a day each week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, volunteerism or work-study.

The Student Government Reporter is responsible for at least one office hour a day each week.  Position can be arranged and modified for internship, volunteerism or work-study.

The Dining Reporter is responsible for at least one office hour a day each week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, volunteerism or work-study.

The Crime & Safety Reporter is responsible for at least one office hour a day each week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, volunteerism or work-study.

The Student Organizations Reporter is responsible for at least one office hour a day each week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, volunteerism or work-study.

The Offices/Services Reporter is responsible for all coverage regarding offices and services (such as Student Involvement, Health Services, etc.). This beat reporter is responsible for developing and maintaining sources within beat and contacting them regularly for stories. The Offices/Services Reporter is responsible for at least one office hour a day each week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, volunteerism or work-study.

Web Project Leader

Essential Duties
The Web Project Leader is responsible for web maintenance. The Web Project leader also develops ideas for improving the layout and design of the site and implements them with the approval of the Executive Editor. The Web Project Leader assists the Executive Editor and is responsible for eight office hours a week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, work-study and for-credit situations.

Opinion Editor

Essential Duties
The Opinion Editor is responsible for opinion submissions, trying to obtain at least two a week. The Opinion Editor is responsible for developing ideas for editorials and for four office hours a week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, work-study and for-credit situations.

The Graphic Design Lead is responsible for designing graphics that will add to a story (graphs, charts, sketches, etc.). He/She will communicate daily with all beat reporters, the Assignment Editor and the Managing Editor to brainstorm, develop and implement graphics. The Graphic Design Lead is responsible for eight office hours a week. Position can be arranged and modified for internship, work-study and for-credit situations.
