The Center for Urban Research organizes basic research on the critical issues that face New York and other large cities in the U.S. and abroad, collaborates with public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other partners to help them understand how to respond to the challenges they face, and informs the media, opinion-shapers, and the public about urban research at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY).  Our website provides access to dynamic maps, data sets, and research findings about New York City and other metropolitan centers.

The "end of segregation"? A more nuanced view from NY.
March 2012: The Center for Urban Research responds to the Manhattan Institute's report on "The End of the Segregated Century," countering the report's bold claims about the decline of African-American segregation in America. We focus our analysis on the largest metro area in the country: New York. Through our review and comprehensive mapping of the region, we find a more nuanced story, in which the end of the era of segregation is not at hand.

Proposed Congressional districts for NYS available in GIS format
March 2012: Proposed Congressional districts have been presented to the US District Court. Multiple versions of the proposed lines were submitted by the Senate and Assembly majority parties and others. The Center for Urban Research has converted them to formats compatible with computer mapping software and online maps, available for downloading.

Redistricting implications for the NYS legislature
February 13, 2012: The new boundaries for state Senate and Assembly districts proposed by New York's legislative redistricting task force would increase the number of seats held by the majority parties in both chambers, according to an analysis by the New York World and the Center for Urban Research.
