About Us

The WAI was founded by Angela Hughes Halliwell, mother of two, in August of 2008. Angela had her first child in San Francisco in 2005 and her second in Boston in 2007. The two experiences, and the experiences of other mothers she spoke with, met in mothers’ groups, and interacted with in parks, preschools and beyond, left Angela with a few burning questions:

  • If the female body takes ~40 weeks to change in order to sustain a healthy pregnancy, why don’t we expect a significant recuperation period as well?
  • Why is there a lack of available, useful information about post-partum physical recuperation?
  • How can new moms take control of their recuperation during the post-partum year if they don’t have information about how to approach this recovery?

It was out of these questions that the WAI was born. Inspired to aggregate relevant post-partum wellness information for other moms, Halliwell built a well-credentialed foundation of board members and friends of to build a database of professional contributions and recommendations from Obstetricians, Gynecologists, Urogynecologists, Midwives, Women’s Health Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Yoga Masters, Health and Fitness Experts, and other relevant wellness experts.
