Dalston Energy Angels will help people in Hackney to make their homes greener and cheaper to run. It builds on and contributes to many existing sustainability initiatives in Hackney as well as national schemes such as Green Deal and the Renewable Heat Incentive; considering both thermal efficiency (insulation, renewable heating) and electrical efficiency (lighting, devices, heating).

Dalston Energy Angels will, before the end of March and for free:

  • Carry out home energy surveys to deliver advice on how to reduce energy consumption - book here
  • Undertake thermal imaging surveys to show where heat is escaping from homes
  • Work with community organisations addressing fuel poverty
  • Work with local construction professionals to help them secure new business – more info here

So whether you’re a resident with a draughty house, a tenant who spends nearly as much on heating as rent, or a local builder wanting to develop the sustainable side of your business – do get involved. This project runs till the end of March

More about the Green Deal & ECO

This project has been funded by the Local Energy Assessment Fund, and is part of the build up to the Green Deal. The Green Deal is a government scheme which aims to help homes and businesses in Britain make their properties more energy efficient by allowing people to take out long-term finance on work like loft insulations, double glazing and new boiler installations. The costs for this work will then be taken out of the savings made on energy bills.

The government has announced an initial investment of £200M to fund the Green Deal project and has created the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme to deal with hard to treat properties and poor or vulnerable households. The reported budget for ECO is £1.35bn per year until March 2015 with research suggesting that together Green Deal and ECO could support at least 65,000 insulation and construction jobs in that time, and significantly reduce the UK’s carbon footprint. More info here

Through the Dalston Energy Angels project, Arcola Theatre is supporting the development of a strong network, able to implement the Green Deal to the best local advantage. We want local people to feel empowered and enabled to engage with this new financing mechanism. We want local people to understand the difference an energy efficient home can make to their finances and the planet.
