I’m a thirtysomething web developer/technical writing living in Orlando, Florida. As of the writing of this I’m single and have three cats. And, yes, that officially makes me a crazy cat lady. I’d be more proud of this if I didn’t hate changing litter boxes and inhaling floating cat hair.
I was born in Maine but spent the majority of my formative years in various towns in Germany. Army brat, check. I was a “surprise” which means I was still in my teens when my parents retired to sunny Florida. Talk about culture shock. But I guess Florida grew on me because I haven’t left yet and that’s been my choice for over a decade.
I’ve been online for way too many years now. I’ve mostly bounced around but, for the past six years, I ran my own TV blog. I loved it. But even the things you love can get tedious after a while. Now I’m trying to get back to blogging basics and hhopefully you’ll find some of what I have to say interesting.
I’m not sure what I will be talking about here yet but I obviously still love TV and you can expect to see some fangirling. I’ve also recently gotten into photography and hope to explore that a little more here. I’m an avid reader and though I review books on my friend Jody’s book blog, With a Good Book, I am sure I’ll be raving about my favorites here as well. I’ve always been a baker and despite taking a break from the cake business over the past year, I make novelty cakes. Expect to see pictures of those. What else? Life really. I’m single and sometimes I like to explore what it means to be a single female in her thirties. As for the rest, I’ll figure it out as I go along.
Finally, the “required” disclaimer, I don’t blog for money. There will never be any ads (that have monetary value anyway — I’m not above throwing up a banner for something I love and want to promote) here. Nor will I be using affiliate links in my posts. It’s not that I’m against people making a living on blogging, it’s that I don’t want the pressure of conforming to anyone else’s needs for my blog. If I like something, I blog about it. And if I hate something enough, I probably blog about it too. That said, I do occasionally get offered opportunities to participate in events or host giveaways. The giveaways are more about giving something to you. The events, which I typically have to partially pay for myself, are about rewarding myself. Since it’s the only form of “payment” I ever accept, I don’t feel to bad about it. Nor do I think it affects my opinion on those topics since I’m unlikely to accept invites for things I don’t like and/or can’t support. I’m not sure how often I’ll be afforded those opportunities with this new blog but, if something is ever provided for/to me, I will always clearly note that fact on all associated blog posts.
PS: All of the illustrations on my site were created for me by the talented and lovely Cassie McDaniel.
