New to Chew: My Love for Copenhagen Tobacco

June 7th, 2010

Out of all of the chewing tobacco that I have tried, it was hard to pick a favorite.  There are so many different brands out there, when I began chewing, I decided to try a few to see if there was one that I would stick with. Out of all that I tried, Copenhagen Tobacco stood out. Compared to other brands, it really had a great flavor that wasn’t overpowering. Some brands I tried would upset my stomach, and the copenhagen did not.  I never was left wanting more nicotine and having to put in a second batch.  Others were a bit light on the nicotine, so I would either get more, or switch to a cigarette.  Originally, I was a cigarette smoker, and as a smoking ban has been put onto my city, I decided to try chewing. If I had not found copenhagen, I am not sure I would of continued to chew.  They even have the pouches that have become more and more popular this past year.  I really like those because I don’t feel as though I have a bunch of tobacco stuck in my teeth, and I don’t accidentally swallow any of the tobacco.  If you are new to chewing tobacco, or have recently switched from cigarettes, I definitely recommend Copenhagen Tobacco for many reasons but quality and variety are at the top along with a great price.

Let the BBQ Season Start

April 14th, 2010

It is time to delouse your grills, put on your cut-off’s and flip flops and revel in the day out bbqing and smoking great Cigars. Along with my favourite smokes, I like to saver a drink of scotch and just relax. After such a long winter, which seemed to be longer than years past, last weekend was perfect BBQ weather. I was able to finally open all of my windows and air out the house. I do not smoke inside, but it needed airing out anyhow. I tuned up my grass mower because yes, sadly it is that time of the year as well . The snow is gone and the grass is growing. I do not mind cutting my grass and keeping the lawn up. There’s basically a great satisfaction to a nice looking grass and worth all the effort. This past weekend, I smoked my favorite cigar and BBQ’d up some ribs and pork steaks. I like to think of myself as the master cook, king of the griddle. There is nothing like lighting those coals and going to the town on bounteous meats and vegetables. Naturally I am a charcoal man, I adore the flavour of the griddle. If you use gas, it does not get the smokey flavour that I like and is way overrated. I invited all of my pals and of course the other half and youngsters were there. It is a little to cold to swim yet, but once commemorative day comes around, I will open the pool for the season. My youngsters love swimming and splashing around, I am also known to take a dip with cigar and scotch in hand. Summer is just such a great time to get together with friends and family and enjoying life they way you want to.

Purchasing Your Travelling Humidor

March 17th, 2010

There is nothing better than starting up a smoke when it is time to calm down, either after work, on the golf course and after we take care of something important, like a private and a professional victory.  And the more time we toke on cigars and become more familiar with stogies – the more we learn about taking care of them.  And naturally when we begin to smoke premium, costlier brands, we find out how vital it is to keep them at there optimum level of freshness.  You didn’t have to worry about purchasing a portable case for your Dutch Master Cigars that you used to purchase. So when it is time to travel with our stogies -or even if we only wish to have a smarter way to keep them while on the way to work or out on growing businesses dinners -we definitely want a smarter way to guard there flavor, as well as carry them properly.  And choosing a Cigar Travel Humidor should be something that we take somewhat seriously.  Truthfully, when you think about it, more folk will see our travel humidor than will see our home or primary humidor.  So picking a good, quality travelling humidor must be treated with the same type of thought and detail as when we selected our home humidor.  These are some tips for choosing a travelling humidor : These are the fundamentals, but knowing them will prepare you for your search.  The Size- basically, how many cigars will you travel with.  Don’t be afraid to over do it a little .  Clearly, it’s better to have more room than not enough.  Lid and Seal – Depending on the kind of humidor you would like – whether it be a solid case / box -or a leather one – The lid should always close on a cushion of air.  We do not desire ANY air within our humidor.  Air is the enemy and without reference to size, we should always purchase a cigar travel humidor that follows the same elements as a regular humidor.  Within and Lining – For traveling, our cigar humidor wishes fingered casing so that our cigars stay nice and snug during our travels -especially for long distance trips.  And a good insulated material is always another benefit.  Humidifier Device – i have seen some blokes that basically paid money on a humidor with no humidifier device – and its a total let down.  The Humidifier is the backbone of a good, quality travel humidor.  That’s what controls the interior humidity levels inside the cigar travel humidor.

Bourbon Smokes and Alcohol

March 10th, 2010

The immediate effect of a cigar on your tastes is potent. If you plan to eat or drink during or immediately after smoking a cigar, your selections need to be made carefully to avoid a mismatch. The smoky, cedary spray of a powerful cigar can linger on your palate for hours, and it’ll continue to make a contribution to whatever you are eating or drinking. Paired correctly with the right food and beverage, say a dark barley wine or a peaty single malt scotch, this match might be made in heaven. The peaty-rich nose and the finish of perfectly ripe apricots offered by a barley wine, in combination with a cigar’s potent contribution of a creamy smooth taste with hints of cedar and spice, can be an excellent combo.   Also don’t forget about Makers Mark Cigars, which are a bourbon infused cigar that is excellent.

The final analysis is that you can match cigars with beer, wine, food or spirits – all you have to know is what combinations you do and don’t enjoy, which is just knowledge gained thru experimentation. It goes without saying that your own taste receptors are the final judge of what is right on your table.

Lets Produce Quality Cigars

February 10th, 2010

Just as the european wine industry experienced strain and growing pains as US wine producers gained global accolades, the Cuban cigar industry must face market facts that they are now not the world figure in cigar production and cigar quality.  In fact, the lifting of the Embargo ( whatever that suggests ) will not, can not return Cuba to its glory days.  The cigar industry has taken root and gained force in a number of the nations mentioned above, and there isn’t any indication that they will go into bankruptcy if the embargo is lifted.  They are gaining notoriety and accolades for manufacturing quality products that the U.  S.  cigar fan has grown to accept and love.

Merely a Couple Days to the Cigarette Restriction

December 29th, 2009

Well, Saint Louis has passed a smoking ban for all restaurants and bars, with only a few exemptions. I am so done with my constitutional rights being abolished, I am annoyed. I can’t apprehend why non-smokers have such a aggressive conviction on what we smokers want to do. Everyone knows that smoking is damaging, but I made a conscience decision when I started smoking, observant of the fact it was unhealthy. Just because non-smokers want me to give it up, will not mean that it’s going to happen. Smoking in restaurants has been a allowance, but most restaurants have a special smoking section. If you do not want to smell the smoke, don’t sit in the smoking section, you are not forced to sit in that section. And as well as the workers of these bars that state they are tortured by second hand smoke, prove it. I worked in the restaurant business for over 10 years, and I know that the majority of thepeople I worked with were smokers.  Doing business with people, always, initiates you to puff.  Personally, I have never overheard any non-smoking co-worker ever protest about second hand smoke while working in the smoking section. Putting a smoking ban in restaurants and bars, ultimately will only save me money, for I will not go out after the first of the year.

What I want for Christmas: Stogies!

December 18th, 2009

I have made a decision this christmas to beg for easy gifts that my wife can pick out comfortably for me. My selection, as always, is my well-beloved cigar from don-tomas-cigars.com. She won’t even have to leave our condo, she can go online (I have all my favorites sites saved) and enter the order there. As far as anything else, she can head over to the nearest retailer and pick out a gift. She argues every year that I am totally difficult guy to purchase for. But we have been married for over 15 years! And if she doesn’t know the things I admire by now, I just don’t know. I continuously say every year, “I want stogies”, I smoke 1 or 2 per day, and that adds up. I have a humidor for storing my stogies, “what’s that for?” my wife inquires. Well my sweetheart, it’s to keep my stogies crisp. So, if you get me cigars for christmas I can store them in there for a few months and pull one when I am wishing to savor one. Although I have to say, I was lucky last year, my wife bought me a lighter that was ingraved with my initials. The year before, she bought me a fishing pole, without thinking I said I would like to go fishing again someday. Well, I went fishing one time in two years, but guess what, I still smoke 1-2 stogies every day. Well what do I want for my present this year? I want Smokes, and all else would just be an added delight.

Cigars: Facts for the average stogie smoker

November 10th, 2009

The typical method of identifying cigars is by the method in which they are made. Cigars are either rolled by hand, or manufactured by machines. The novice smoker may be tempted to start by trying those machine made brands sold in Drug Stores, such as Parodi. However, the aspiring connoisseur should consider spending a few more pennies and moving up to hand rolled cigars, which are sold online or at a local tobacconist.

Daily Smokers Vs Connoisseurs
TypicalIndividual cigar smokers have their own unique tastes, and have their own individual budget. Those who are smoking several cigars per day may need an “everyday” cigar that is inexpensive. Therefore, the taste and cost of machine made cigars can be very attractive to some smokers. However, to the new smoker or experienced connoisseurs, the ones who enjoy an occasional cigar as a special treat, the hand rolled cigar is worth every cent.
