As well as the less frivolous Flash things I make, I have also made some more useful, serious things.

Election Maps

Inspired by a similar US Election Map made for the 2004 US presidential election, I made a Flash map of the UK coloured according to the 2001 and 2005 general election results.

Postcode apps

I have done some monkeying around with maps and postcodes, although the only worthwhile one is Post2Tiny – it takes a UK postcode and produces a TinyURL link to a map of the local area. I’ve also created a Greasemonkey extension that automatically converts postcodes into Google Maps links – you can download it here.

WordPress plugins

I have written a couple of plugins for WordPress. One extension creates a drop-down list that links to your monthly archives, which doesn’t rely on JavaScript or some other unnatural silliness – download and install it from here. The other is far more experimental, and uses the “Recent tracks” RDF from Audioscrobbler and Amazon web services, to automatically work out what albums I have been listening to and display them (as you can see on the left column). The source code is here, but I recommend you get in touch with me before you play with it.

Flash RSS reader

I’ve written a Flash RSS reader as an experiment, but it’s not very user-friendly, what with all the scary slidingness going on.

Eternity

Eternity was my undergraduate 3rd year research project. Eternity was a network conceived by Ross Anderson, its purpose to store data on a distributed network such that the data would always be accessible. Even if parts of the networked got cut off or impounded by the authorities, the data would still survive. To offset the risk of getting the NSA on your case, Anderson proposed a payment system linked to storage.

I designed and implemented such a network in Java, and on a small scale it worked, sort of, and I did some very basic analysis and testing on its durability. You can find more about it in my BA dissertation (PDF, 205k), which got me my best mark in my BA finals. If you want to know more then drop me a line.

Work Stuff

spacer When working at CARET in Cambridge, I was one of the software developers for the Brainteasers And Puzzles and rEvolution Aspirations-Raising projects, creating the Flash games and the website for each.

Other Websites

spacer A long long time ago I was webmaster for both Corpus Christi JCR and the Corpus Christi May Ball, but they (well, the latter at least) have moved on since.

When I was young and gave a shit, I wrote a not-very-good 5k entry called Socialism in 5120 Bytes – it’s amusing in its own way, I suppose.
