Wednesday 14 March: Game On presents a MONSTEROUS Double

Wednesday 14 March: Game On presents a MONSTEROUS Double

Free Public Program: All Welcome

As Game On enters its sixth year as the penultimate provider of all things game making on the Queensland indie scene, we get all reflective and examine the influence of the industry on the cultural zeitgeist. We discus monsters, zombies, cyberpunk and the apocalypse and ponder life’s big questions in a year of wide ranging talks about how us gamers and game makers do what we do …

AND, returning this year, We bring you a very special supporting series to our 2012 program: the return of ‘The Elements of Games’.  Come and spend an hour with a games industry specialist who will illuminate aspects of their particular area. Stay for the main Game On program!

Game On 2012 Special Event: the return of the elements of games: The way of the concept artist

Date: Wednesday March 14th
Time: 5.00-6.00

Date: Wednesday March 14th
Time: 6.00-7.00
Venue: the glasshouse, Creative Industries Precinct, Z2 Level 4, Musk Av. KG

From the very earliest games made in computer and engineering labs to contemporary triple A titles, the antagonist – something to shoot at, avoid, outwit or generally destroy, is often a monster of some kind. Many of these antagonists take the form of recognisable monsters already prevalent in other media and myth: Zombies, Vampires …. This game on presentation invites you to join our panel of experts from the games industry and film to chat about the histories and form of the enemies we love to frag.

Dressing up is encouraged – there may be jellybeans – Join us after the panel down at Room 60 (wine bar)

Featuring Dan Graf, Angie Knaggs & Peter Schembri

Dan Graf - Founder IGDA Sydney, Game designer at Halfbrick, Creative Director at Throw the Looking Glass & Ark Games, Previs artist at Dr. D Studios .. writer, director, animator & educator .. Dan loves designing experiences – cinematic storytelling, animating characters and developing videogames …

Peter Schembri – our own resident ‘all things mythos’ man, Peter kindly *volunteered* [cough cough] to be our resident cinematic media and story expert for the cultural program this year .. Peter has awesome knowledge and tells stories about monsters and media myths all the time so we thought we’d grab him for you!

Angie Knaggs – QANTM Brisbane’s monster and zombie guru ….Angie does apparently have a zombie outfit and may well use it against you …

Wednesday May 9th – SCI-FI

“The golden age of the arcade game was also the age of space travel and a whole new set of environments and characters who made their media debut in the 80s and 90s are now well established game designer palettes. But science fiction has roots even further back and contemporary science fiction offers a whole slew of other genres from tech-noir, cyber-punk to steam-punk and fifties retro. Join us for a presentation on the nature of the beast and understand your design world!” Dressing up encouraged.
