Description:

Boiled In Lead have long been pioneers in bringing "folk music" kicking and screaming to rock audiences (and rock music to screaming folk audiences). Now the "classic" BiL lineup returns to the studio with Silver, transcending its own history with this fresh collection.

From their first gig in 1983 at the now-demolished "Upper Deck" in Minneapolis, BiL have cut their own swath through the Irish tradition, forging a template distinct from The Pogues' pub-punk. The band's always brought the dark events of traditional songs to light, alongside powerful instrumentals that merge noise and finesse. Silver documents the return of original lead singer Todd Menton and the addition of masterful guitarist Dean Magraw, bringing expanded dynamics to the highly-identifiable BiL sound.

Reviews
  • “Standouts such as ‘Apple Tree Wassail,’ ‘Jolly Tinker,’ and ‘Corner House’ cause uncontrollable jigging while ‘Death on Hennepin’ and ‘The Rushes Green’ slow down the pace but remain just as powerful. Saturday’s ...show is sure to be one to remember...” — Adam Hammer, St. Cloud Times (MN)

  • “MOLTEN PLATTER OF THE WEEK: ...these guys have proved over the years that they can adeptly tackle everything from delicate trad ballads to heavy Springsteen rockers, but on Silver the modern masters of mediaeval music have cold-cast their coolest album yet. ...if you’ve never heard BIL before, then you owe it to yourself to get righteously enlightened because they’re the solid gold standard.” — Jeffrey Morgan, Metro Times, Detroit

  • “Boiled in Lead keys into the most powerful elements of all the genres the band pulls from, finding a hypnotic common denominator in ancient Irish drones and rock rhythms, a similar energy source behind electric guitar solos and the shrill piping of penny whistles.” —
