A Summer Camp for Learning and Singing Sacred Harp

The Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association will hold Camp Fasola for learning Sacred Harp singing, history, and traditions for the ninth consecutive year. Camp Fasola is open to both youth and adults, beginners and experienced singers. Multiple daily sessions will be devoted to teaching Sacred Harp singing, as well as times for recreation, rest, fellowship, and singing. All campers will be expected to perform some area of service during the week. More than 200 campers attended in 2011.

• New: Europe (September 17–21, Wichrowe Wzgórze, Chmielno Poland)

The Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association is pleased to announce that the first Camp Fasola Europe will be held in 2012.

• Dates: September 17-21, 2012
• Location: Near Gdansk, Poland

A convention is being planned for Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23 in Warsaw. The U.K. Convention will be held the previous weekend, September 15 and 16.

Thank you for participating in Camp Fasola 2011 – Youth Session at Camp Lee! Thank you for your support and encouragement throughout the week. I hope that you will be able to stay in touch with new friends, and that you also will be able to attend their singings.

We have read all of your evaluation/feedback sheets, and we are already planning to incorporate many of your suggestions for next year. If you did not leave an evaluation sheet, you are still encouraged to do so. Also, we encourage you to send other ideas that you may developed after you left camp to me.

I would like to extend our thanks again to all our teachers, counselors, and staff for their work in leading us at Youth Camp. Thanks to Jeannette and Scott DePoy for their diligent work behind the scenes in registration and answering inquiries prior to Camp. Thanks also to Lauren Bock for this year’s T-Shirt design, Rod Ivey for the lemonade on Thursday, and Pam Nunn and Cassie Allen for the important job of providing snacks all week.

Thanks to organizations that provided financial support for Camp Fasola 2011: the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the Sacred Harp Publishing Company. Thanks also to individuals and singing conventions/groups that made general contributions or scholarship gifts for Camp Fasola 2011.
