Tropical Traditions Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Review and Giveaway!

Shilhavy and his wife Marianita Jader Shilhavy, they’re the first business in the US to develop and sell organic virgin coconut oil, and are still number 1 today.  10 years of delicious and pure coconutty goodness!

I was generously provided a huge 32 oz jar of coconut oil by Tropical Traditions to review for you, and they’ve also offered to give one of my readers a FREE 32oz jar of their Gold Label Organic Virgin Coconut Oil! Want to learn exactly what is virgin coconut oil?

But first, the review! :)

After opening the jar, I sniffed (I always sniff things I open, it’s a weird habit) and a waft of fresh coconuts hit my nose like a mack truck. YUM! The room was a little warm, so the oil melted a bit to a soft consistency. You can tell this is high grade stuff! This Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is USDA Certified Organic and their highest quality coconut oil. It’s handmade, high in lauric acid, contains high levels of antioxidants, and non-GMO. Sounds perfect on paper – is it really as great as they say? Let’s try it out!

Before my shower, I applied a generous amount of coconut oil on my slightly dampened hair from scalp to ends as a pre-wash treatment. It smoothed my frayed, frizzy ends immediately, and dramatically softened and detangled my hair. I almost didnt want to wash it since it was so soft, shiny and perfect. Alas, I did.

After the wash, I air dried it for about 20 minutes. My hair’s thick so it takes a long time. When I usually air dry, my curls turn out frizzy looking and gross. This time, it was much less so. I clearly remember getting a sample of some Dove styling oil and decided to try it. My hair didn’t feel all that great afterward. (That further sealed my decision NOT to use such crap anymore.) After my flat ironing session, my ends are softer and smooth – no longer frayed, frizzy and dry.

Overall, my hair not only looks shinier, but just feels healthier. The next day, I applied a bit more and my hair is just as shiny and soft as it was during the pre-wash treatment. This is amazing! Before this, I used some olive oil headdress with mineral oil and other junk, and it didn’t do ANY of this! Of course, another bonus – my hair smells faintly of coconuts. Because it’s on the drier side, it never looks weighed down or too oily, but perfect. It swings like a Pantene commercial, and it never gets tangled anymore.  I can sincerely say that my hair has never, ever looked better in the past decade, and I know it’s thanks to this coconut oil.

Also, while my hair was drying, I applied some to my skin. I rubbed it until it became liquidy and applied generous amounts to my legs, arms and feet. My skin was definitely pleased – a hint of healthy shine and glow, very soft, and NOT greasy unlike another brand I tried. The coconut smell was subtle at first, but for some reason got very strong after application. Either way, it kept my skin baby soft and silky for hours, and my normally grumpy dry feet actually cracked a smile.

Neither my skin or my hair (especially my hair) has never felt or looked so nice! I love this, and am thrilled to own a jar. When I run out, I’m definitely buying another.

My final conclusion? Tropical Traditions Gold Label Organic Virgin Coconut Oil works like a charm, and lives up to its stellar reputation and more! It’s such a high quality oil at a fantastic price! The only thing touching my hair after a wash is this oil now. I may even try their actual coconut oil hair treatment!
