Provincetown Whale Watching, Provincetown Activities

I'll chase (the white whale) round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition's flames before I give him up. And this is what ye have shipped for, men! to chase that white whale on both sides of land, and over all sides of earth...

The beginning or the unforgettable tale of Moby Dick is set in Massachusetts, and is it any wonder?  Massachusetts, and especially Cape Cod, may be the best place on America's Eastern Coast to see and watch whales.  During your stay in Provincetown, our Provincetown bed and breakfast inns invite you to enjoy Provincetown whale watching, a favorite of all Provincetown activities!

Whales migrate yearly for mating, feeding, and just to follow the warm waters, as mammals tend to enjoy the warmth.  So why is Cape Cod a great place to see whales?  There happens to be a huge underwater plateau off the Cape's northern tip that, due to water current patterns, has a huge population of food for these majestic mammals.  Because whales travel very slowly during migration, they tend to hang out in areas to socialize, rest, play, and eat.  (Does this sound like any other mammals you know?)

Where there is food and warming water, you can usually find whales!

Between April 1 and October 31, whales enjoy the environment of our coastal waters.  Finbacks, Humpbacks, Minkes, Pilots, Sei Whales, and the very rare Northern Right Whale may be seen during different parts of the Cape Cod whale watching season.  Of course, you may also see dolphin, porpoise, many bird species, and several fish species during a whale watching tour.

The Whale Watch Dolphin Fleet of Provincetown offers whale-watching trips to Provincetown residents and guests.  Trips officially begin on April 11, 2012.  Tickets can be purchased either online, or at the Provincetown Chamber Building on Lopes Square.  Group Rates and Gift Certificates are available.

Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience during your stay at your favorite Cape Cod lodging property!

Provincetown Off-season, Cape Cod Vacations

As Spring slowly prepares to enter our lives, the wind seems to say "Wake up, wake up, P-Town!  It is time to rise from your slumber and prepare for the warm months ahead!"  And what is it like, watching our rare beauty rise from her winter hibernation?  Ah, but this can be one of the more enlightening Cape Cod vacations!  In fact, the October, 2011 issue of SavoirFlair Magazine featured a great article by Joseph Manghise, a New York based editor and writer, depicting the Provincetown off-season in pre-spring.

spacer
The article on page 38, entitled Not Your Average April (for Joe in Provincetown), depicts both the relative isolation of P-Town in the April off-season, as well as how the town slowly wakes from its winter slumber to prepare for the upcoming tourist season.  It celebrates life and loss of the locals, late-winter life in Cape Cod, and everything P-town has to offer both locals and visitors.

As crisp winter air gives way to tentative warmth and sun, the author spends his spring watching P-Town open up into the beautiful summer flower she is known to be.  And he makes you want to come watch it yourself!

So why not give the article a read, and then come to MA and experience P-town's blossoming in person?  The Provincetown lodging options offered by the Distinctive Inns of Provincetown will provide you a warm home-away-from-home as you experience our town come out of her winter sleep.  And as the chill gives way to warmth, our gardens will welcome you to Spring in Provincetown!

Provincetown For Girls, Lesbian Vacation

spacer Provincetown is proud of its tolerant and accepting atmosphere.  Our artistic town is known to be a great destination for all, regardless of race, age, creed, or orientation.  To celebrate this fact, The November, 2011 issue of Curve Magazine contained an article proclaiming Provincetown for girls the ideal lesbian vacation destination.  And we wholeheartedly agree!

For those who have never been to our beautiful town, or even heard of it, know this up front:  intolerance is not tolerated.  Yes, Provincetown is gay-friendly, and largely gay-owned.  You are as likely to see two men or two women walking with their child as a mixed-gender couple.  You are likely to see anyone and everyone holding hands, sharing a romantic dinner, and dancing the night away together.

But back to the topic at hand.

It's the ladies we're celebrating this week!  P-Town has more than its fair share of wonderful lesbian-owned (and gay-owned, to be fair to the men) establishments in town:  from many of our wonderful inns, to eateries, to shops and businesses.  No matter what the time of year, Provincetown is THE perfect getaway for women and their families!

And the events - what fun the girls have in P-Town!  Our year-round events, many specifically for women, welcome visitors from all over New England and the United States.  Our 2012 calendar includes the following events for the girls:

May 18-20, 2012:  Single Women's Weekend.  This event is a 3-day concentration on lesbian life.  With tours, shows, wine tastings, seminars, and dancing, this is a chance for all the single ladies to meet Ms. Right, make amazing friends, and just enjoy being who they are!

May 24-27, 2012:  Memorial Day Weekend.  An 'unofficial' weekend for the girls.  Thousands from all over the world attend annually to enjoy shopping, cruising, and dancing, boating, beaching, biking, barbecues, parties.  There are some great nighttime events scheduled this year!

May 31 - June 3, 2012:  National Women of Color and Friends Weekend.  Join hundreds of women, their family, friends, and supporters and enjoy dance parties, shows, meet & greets, Speed Friending, and dining events.

July 17-21, 2012:  Girl Splash!  An almost-weeklong event of fun and frolic for the ladies!  Come alone or with that special gal for summer days filled with shopping, beach play, exploring Cape Cod, dancing, and entertainment.  Registration usually opens in early June.

July 28, 2012 - August 4, 2012:  Family Pride Week.  While not just for the ladies, this event celebrates ALL families, especially those with LGBT parents.  The Family Equality Council's goal is to create a world where all loving families are recognized, respected, protected, and celebrated, and they are the sponsors of this amazing event.

October 8-14, 2012:  Women's Week.  What was once a simple clambake on the beach has become the largest annual non-profit event for lesbians, welcoming women of every age, color, and shape.  Hosted by our own Women Innkeepers, this event provides a safe atmosphere to be yourself.  Come enjoy outdoor activities, movies, food, dancing, seminars, theater productions, entertainment, drag king contests, and nature around P-Town.  There is so much to do that you may have difficulty choosing!

Provincetown's Cape Cod lodging businesses look forward to hosting your stay for these great events!  But rooms fill up quickly for these dates, so be sure to book in advance!
