When yMonda started, the Internet then was very different from the Internet of today but it was growing fast.
The other emerging and soon to be (almost) ubiquitous technology was the mobile phone.
The fact that these two closely related technologies could not easily connect and communicate with each other was the early prompt for yMonda to get deeply involved with XML. Whilst WAP never really got off the ground, XML has become the de-facto standard for many data applications.
yMonda have been early developers of XML based solutions including one of the first (maybe THE first) entirely XML driven Content Management Systems (CMS).
We have been building server to server XML handling applications from the days when the tools to handle it were very primitive. This has given us a useful insight into the strengths and weaknesses of XML and the various implementations by companies deploying XML services.
Coupled with our interest in XML technology was our interest in address management and what has now become known as geo-coding. Whilst no single application has emerged from this interest, apart from our internal Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool, it has helped yMonda create a strategy for handling address data. Address data is notoriously complex as each country has a different format and structure for its administrative and regional levels and thereby its postal addresses, with Scotland/England/Northern Ireland/Wales-the UK-Great Britain having arguably one of the most complex.
Having a formalised method for dealing with these essential building blocks (almost every application has some form of address component) has simplified development time and time again.
