Another closure for Vermont Climbers — this time in the Northeast Kingdom. Wheeler Mountain, home to some fine Vermont rock climbing, has a closure on the left side of the cliff. Please be aware there are falcons nesting on this side, so stay clear! VJ’s Slab and Great Corner area, the Standard Route, and Upper Whine and Cheese are listed as closed.
Earlier in the season a climber was attacked on Captain’s Crack or Chockstone at the Upper West Bolton Crag — clawing the back of his neck and head. Also, video was captured of a climber being swooped and screamed at by a falcon while on the same route. This section of the cliff has been closed and is still closed, however areas of Upper West have been reopened for climbing. For more information on closures please check out CRAG-VT.
