SMBGC Thanks Our AmeriCorps VISTAs during AmeriCorps Week!

spacer
The Corporation for National and Community Service AmeriCorps VISTA program is a national service initiative designed to fight poverty and illiteracy, improve educational programs and strengthen community groups. VISTAs (Volunteers In Service to America) serve at a nonprofit organization or local government agency full-time for one year.

Five AmeriCorps members have been assigned to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica’s CollegeBound program. Their role is to cultivate the relationships necessary to sustain the future development of the program and give our students opportunities for academic, professional and personal enrichment. This year, during AmeriCorps week (March 10 -  18) we would like to recognize the commitment of each of our five AmeriCorps members by highlighting their work.

  • Francesca Aspromonte, the CollegeBound Outreach & Events Coordinator, helps to organize events in the teen center, organizes tours of college campuses and manages social media outreach for the program.
  • Johnathan Shapiro, our Resource Development Coordinator, works closely with our Grants Director to write grants which help sustain the CollegeBound program, as well as identifies tools that will enable our students to succeed in high school and beyond.
  • Jossimar Fuentes is our Digital Media Specialist. He helps with website design and manages the technical aspects of marketing and advertising initiatives for the program.
  • Kevin Franco, our Expansion & Resource Coordinator, works to recruit, train and manage new volunteers, and also works to secure partnerships with community organizations.
  • Vanessa Lopez is our Academic Advancement Coordinator and she is helping to set up a satellite CollegeBound program at our JAMS branch.

We are so pleased to have our VISTAs with us – and are grateful for the impact they have on our organization!

Back a Youth!

2/20/2012

spacer For nearly 70 years – and for just $20 per year - the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica has offered youth have a safe place to be when they’re not at school, and programs that enhance their educational, civic, leadership and arts abilities.  The cost per youth is nearly $1,000, but we make it affordable because the unconditional support and backing of our caring staff results in improved self-esteem, expanded skills, and a brighter future.

This is only made possible thanks to the support of people like you, who choose to Back a Youth by sponsoring the cost of sending a child – or children – to SMBGC for a year, a month or a week. Consider:

  • Each $20 gift will Back a Youth for one week (52 cover one year)
  • Each $84 gift will Back a Youth for one month (12 cover one year)
  • Each $168 gift will Back two Youths for one month (12 cover one year)
  • Each $1,000 gift will Back a Youth for one year

Please support our Back-a-Youth campaign today.

Building Great Futures – One Brick at a Time

6/15/2011

spacer For 67 years, SMBGC has helped youth reach their full potential by providing a supportive place for them to grow. Now you can leave your mark on the Club’s foundation by purchasing a brick with a personal message.

The new outdoor area at our Main branch gives our members a place to have fun outside and includes a playground structure, BBQ and picnic area, a garden and more. It also includes a brick walkway where you can commemorate your enduring involvement with the Club by purchasing a brick engraved with a message of your choice. Three sizes are available at a cost of $250, $500 and $1,000. The proceeds will support club programs.
