The NMDA Executive Conference offers participants a rare opportunity — a suitable forum for owners, chief executives and general/sales/marketing managers of both wholesale distributors and manufacturers to discuss issues pertinent to their business relationships today and into the 21st century.
The 28th Executive Conference will be held March 27-29, 2012, in Atlanta, Georgia. Originally conceived as an “every year” event it went biennial in 2008 and has been a success in this format. As in the past, the meetings are held in the living room area of the hotel rooms and are between the top executives of the distributor firms and the top executives of the manufacturing firms.
The name, Executive Conference, means just that. This is NOT a purchasing event, this is not a “let’s see if we can get an additional point from the vendor”, this is a top level meeting. Many topics can, and should, be discussed during these private closed door meetings. Some of these might be delivery issues for the coming S.T.E.P. Conference (remember this is being held in March), new product/concept ideas (again, these are private, pre-arranged closed door meetings) and how each party can do things better.
One of the best ideas that several distributors have implemented for these meetings is they take the criteria for the Supplier of the Year and actually review or rate all of their suppliers. They then spend their meeting going over the results. This can be a real help to both parties in improving the relationship.
