About A Good One (AG1)

A Good One (AG1) is a graphic design studio based in Chicago, IL and run by Roberto Balderas. Rather than being a design “boutique” we are a design lab. Experimentation, innovation, and fresh ideas are key to our design approach.

We deliver graphic design that is engaging, dynamic, provocative and in tune with the times. Our focus is editorial design, art direction, photography, identity design, print and web design.

Our goal is to provide unquestionable quality in graphic design services aiming to create highly effective, recognizable brands.

Roberto Balderas Chief Creative Director | Founder

Roberto has an exceptional balance of technical and artistic skills. He is very passionate about print and design in general. He has a keen eye for composition, typography, color theory, illustration, layout and web design.

Roberto is always seeking opportunities to indulge his creativity while learning new things. He’s also happy hanging out with friends, playing darts, and going on little adventures. He lives in Uptown —which is an adventure all in itself!

Mike Travis Creative Image Director | Photographer

Mike is an experienced photographer equipped with a sharp mind, a strong sense of harmony, rhythm, and a superb eye for lighting and composition. Mike relocated to Chicago after living in Austin, TX. for 19 years. He lives in Wicker Park with his wonderful wife, dog and cat.

Mike is also an accomplished drummer. He has a strange fascination with a thrift store mannequin that he affectionately calls “Busty Mannequin.”

Busty Mannequin has a very fair complexion, and I can now tell you, nipples of the most delicate shade of pink.

On September 1st, 2011 Mike started his third Project 365 Photo-a-Day. He’s always taking pictures but this time the man is on a mission!

Maribel Guzman Curator | Copywriter

The multifaceted Maribel received her bachelor’s in photography from Columbia College. Besides being a photographer, she is a sharp writer and an opinionated art critic. She is very much interested in visual arts, literature and film.

Maribel, brings experience from countless hours volunteering at the Intuit Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the National Museum of Mexican Art. Presently, Maribel is working as Assistant Curator for the September edition of artXposium.
