New Directions

Like latent memories awakened by a scent carried on an autumn breeze, these recent artworks represent those moments when elusive associations are made unexpectedly from familiar places, events, or persons.

The themes I develop are often visual narratives having recognizable images within artistic components. Beginning with studies taken directly from life more complex compositions are created. Arching patterns of color and lyrical line or the inclusion of sculptural elements are elaborations of thoughts and feelings that make the associations from the subjects tangible.

In many respects these investigations of subject and form are representations showing the collage of influences that shape perception. The rhythms and patterns of my designs are constructions invented to weave impressions of familiar subjects with the threads of thoughts and feelings associated to them. More importantly, though the themes represented are taken from my own experiences, my paintings are invitations to the viewer to enjoy those moments spent contemplating the associations that color our lives.
