3/15/12 - Dave Graham has made the first ascent of another V14 in Hueco Tanks, just after finishing in fourth place at the 19th annual Hueco Rock Rodeo. He calls the problem Blood of a Young Wolf.
This new problem is one version of the Black Vortex project. There are two exits; Blood of a Young Wolf starts low and goes out the right exit. (Despite numerous attempts by Graham and crew, no one was able to finish the problem that goes left.) He wrote in his 8a.nu scorecard, βAn amazing problem with extremely burly moves on sloppy grips, I was lucky enough to send the last day of my trip, and had zero expectations to do so. This thing was the icing on the cake for my trip to the Tanks this year. Next year, the left exit. V15 without a doubt.β
This marks his 21st first ascent of a V14 or harder, including Neon Desert that he established only a week and a half earlier. Five of his first ascents have been V15s.
Contributing to his fourth-place finish at the Rodeo were the problems The Hand (V10), Sub Zero (V11), Chupacabra Right (V11), Two Days With Gene (V11), Phantom Limb (V12), and Cut To The Quick (V12).
Date of ascent: March 9, 2012
