Fun facts about Mr. Rogers on his 84th birthday
It’s too warm in plenty of areas to don the traditional cardigan, but that doesn’t mean you can’t channel a little Mr. Rogers charm by being a good neighbor today, on what would have been the television legend’s eighty-fourth birthday.
Neatorama’s Jill Harness has done some research on Fred and it seems that Mr. Rogers was just as nice off TV as he was on, rumors of his sniper-past being just that. Here’s a sampling of what she dug up, but follow the link for plenty more.
- Mr. Rogers was actually red-green color blind, meaning he never really saw the true color of his famous red cardigan.
- Michael Keaton started his career on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, where he worked as a puppeteer in 1975.
- The only time Rogers appeared on television as someone other than himself was when he played a preacher on an episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
- Aside from writing the majority of his shows and almost all the songs used on the program, Fred also authored over 35 books.
