Tuesday, March 20 | 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. ET
More details and registration here:

spacer APBP and the Alliance for Biking & Walking are excited to announce the first-ever National Women Cycling Forum! Join us at this free event just before the National Bike Summit opens on Tuesday, March 20. Sue Macy, author of Wheels of Change: How Women Rode the Bicycle to Freedom (With a Few Flats Tires Along the Way), is the keynote speaker.

The forum brings together a panel of women from advocacy, engineering, government and industry to discuss how to engage more women in bicycling. Read more here, and plan to get to Washington for the inaugural--and surely inspirational--National Women Cycling Forum.

Attend APBP's annual Women Cycling webinar, Empowering Women to Bicycle for Transportation
Wednesday, March 28 | 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. EDT
Free | Click here to register

spacer spacer Since APBP inaugurated the Women Cycling Project in 2010, thousands of women have participated in the project. This year's webinar highlights programs and approaches that encourage women to bicycle on a more regular basis. Learn about Cycles for Change, the Minneapolis program that educates and empowers women of various cultures to use bicycles as transportation, helping to build a sustainable environment and community; and Birmingham’s Magic City Cycle Chix, whose motto is "Building courage, confidence, and community…two wheels at a time" and whose mission is to encourage women to mountain bike. Stay tuned as we announce more speakers.

The webinar will also include a brief update on these topics:
  • Outcomes of the National Women Cycling Forum
  • Plans for the interactive Women Cycling website
  • Update on transportation legislation in Congress
The webinar is hosted by the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals and is sponsored by APBP and the Alliance for Biking & Walking.

Reports That Make the Case for Bicycling and Walking

spacer Bicycling and Walking in the United States: 2012 Benchmarking Report shows that increasing bicycling and walking is clearly in the public interest; use the data to make the case for funding bicycling and pedestrian improvements.  Contact elected officials and your local media about the importance of bike/ped funding to communities. Use information from the report and include examples of good project outcomes or the bad things (injuries, deaths) that could have been avoided through bicycle and pedestrian improvements.

Rails to Trails has just released a new report, Active Transportation Beyond Urban Centers. The report corrects many false assumptions and stereotypes about walking and biking, and the interactive map on the report's website is great.

For example, click on the Congressional district overlay to view the list of TE and SRTS projects that have benefited a Representative’s district.
