Following its amazing success at the National Theatre and a triple Tony Award winning run on Broadway, FELA! flourished at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, erupting with beautiful colours, contagious live music and spirited and sparkling dance. FELA! is the remarkable true story of the celebrated Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, whose synthesis of funk, jazz and African rhythms influenced and inspired a generation. This fantastic musical unifies theatre, dance and music into a work of art that unearths Kuti’s contentious life as an artist and political activist in an exhilarating and electric fashion. This short run stars Sahr Ngaujah and Adesola Osakalumi as Fela Kuti. Ngaujah charmed the London crowds and critics at the national theatre last summer and was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of this iconic and musical legend. WinkBall citizen video reporters were at Sadler’s Wells Theatre on Thursday, 25th August 2011, asking the patrons what their expectations were of the evening and what impact they think Fela has had on the cultural and political landscape of Nigeria.
