Motorola KRZR K1: Black and Silver Quartz
Posted by Admin on 2006/11/18 6:00:02 (3 reads)

spacer The Motorola KRZR K1 has only been out for a little while, but it seems that Motorola have already got some colour variants in the pipeline for those people who find the original KRZR a bit too exciting - in this case Motorola have come up with a Black and Silver Quartz variant.

Presumably Motorola will do their usual trick later and release yet more colours, so you may have to wait a little while for puce, topaz or cinnabar colours. (OK, we're making those up, but the Motorola V3x is available in pumpkin.)

Sony Ericsson to unveil RAZR rival early '07: source
Posted by Admin on 2006/11/18 5:54:58 (2 reads)

spacer SINGAPORE, Nov 17 (Reuters) - Sony Ericsson, the world's fourth-largest handset maker, plans to launch an ultra-slim, high-end Walkman camera phone in early 2007 to take on Motorola's (MOT.N: Quote, Profile, Research) blockbuster RAZR, an industry source told Reuters.

The RAZR's runaway success spurred Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (005930.KS: Quote, Profile, Research) to launch a copycat line of slim phones in the summer, which helped boost the South Korean firm's handset sales and margins in the third quarter.

Sony VAIO C-series notebooks likely to become hot items
Posted by Admin on 2006/11/18 5:49:14 (1 reads)

spacer Sony's Core 2 Duo-based VAIO C-series notebooks, which were launched in Taiwan on November 15, are expected to become hot items due to the company's aggressive pricing, according to channel sources in Taiwan.

The entry-level VGN-C15, which is powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 processor and features a Nvidia GeForce 7400 GPU (graphics processing unit), carries a suggested retail price of NT$39,800 (US$1,213), which is 33.7% lower than the ASP (average selling price) of NT$60,000 for Sony's VAIO notebooks sold in Taiwan this year, the sources noted.

Lenovo Y Series Notebooks on Tap for December 15
Posted by Admin on 2006/11/18 5:38:03 (2 reads)

spacer Lenovo is introducing a new notebook series in mid-December for the Asia-Pacific region and it looks to be a winner. The new Y Series notebooks come in 13" and 14" varieties and feature a number of enhancements to make them stand out from the ever-growing notebook realm.

The Y300 is the entry-level model, but its features are anything but bargain basement. The Y300 features a 13" screen and slot-loading DVD burner. The Y300 does away with a traditional fingerprint reader that has become prevalent on so many laptops these days and instead using a facial recognition technology via the built-in webcam. The 4.85 pound unit also features a dedicated GeForce Go 7300 GPU to handle graphics duties.

HP tech support: Live in your living room
Posted by Admin on 2006/11/18 5:22:21 (1 reads)

spacer Hewlett-Packard's tech support engineers will soon be able to take a look under the virtual hood of your PC from thousands of miles away.

The company plans on Monday to unveil a service, called Instant Care, that lets HP technicians remotely connect to a user's PC--with their permission--to diagnose problems, upgrade drivers or teach the basics of PC maintenance, a company representative said. Instant Care is designed to bolster the capabilities of two HP support services already available: an educational service called SmartFriend and a maintenance service called PC Tune-up.

AMD's Live outselling Intel's Viiv, analyst says
Posted by Admin on 2006/11/18 5:16:54 (2 reads)

spacer Advanced Micro Devices has eked out a slight lead over Intel in the battle over entertainment PCs, but it's still very early in the game. Think of it as AMD winning the Iowa caucus.

Desktops based around the AMD Live platform have outsold Intel's Viiv PCs in U.S. retail since August, according to Toni DuBoise, an analyst at Current Analysis.

In July, both Live and Viiv accounted for 8 percent of the desktop U.S. retail market each. In August, Live moved up to 9 percent while Viiv stayed at 8 percent. In September, Live moved up to 12 percent while Live accounted for 11 percent. In October, Live jumped to 17 percent and Live moved to 15 percent.

New Technology Allows Wireless Recharging
Posted by Admin on 2006/11/17 0:53:38 (4 reads)

spacer In the future, we might recharge electronics the same way many people now surf the web: wirelessly.

Marin Soljacic, a researcher from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, often forgets to recharge his cell phone. At times he is awakened by that last breath of electronic power that comes through as an unpleasant beep before the phone goes into sleep land itself.

spacer The first thing youll notice when you pick up Panasonics new Toughbook CF-W5 will likely be its matte-silver finish, super-light weight, and pop-up optical drive. You wont, however, need to pay much attention to the battery meter, since this system lasts a staggering eight hours on a charge. Throw in a durable design and an optional Verizon Wireless EV-DO card for anytime, anywhere connectivity and you have a pricey but highly recommended ultraportable.

Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card

spacer Plonk a Sparkle card based on Nvidia's GeForce 8800 GTS graphics chip next to its bigger brother, the GeForce 8800 GTX - reviewed here - and you can quickly spot a couple of differences. The GTS is visibly shorter than the GTX - 23cm against 24cm - and it has a single six-pin PCI Express power connector sticking off the end, instead of the pair of side-mounted connectors that you find on the GTX.
