My main goal with this site is to help others get a better understanding of autism and asperger’s and to give everyone a place to call home and be able to find others that they can relate to and share parts of their day with that understands where your coming from.

Asperger’s Symptoms

  • Your child may not pick up on social cues like:  being able to read others body language, start or maintain a conversation, and may not do well in turn taking activities.
  • Doesn’t like any changes in their routines.
  • Doesn’t seem to show empathy.
  • Is unable to recognize differences in speech tone, pitch, and accent that alter the meaning of others’ speech. Your child may not understand a joke or may take a sarcastic comment literally. Likewise, his or her speech may be flat monotone and difficult to understand due to it lacking tone, pitch, and accent.
  • Have a formal style of speaking that is advanced for his or her age. For example, the child may use the word “hilarious” instead of “funny” Your child may come off sounding like a little professor!
  • Avoid eye contact or stare at others.
  • Have unusual facial expressions or postures.
  • We may also display inappropriate giggling or laughing.
  • Seem to have limited interests of only one or a few things, which he or she may be very knowledgeable about. Many people with Asperger’s syndrome are overly interested in parts of a whole or in unusual activities, such as designing houses, drawing highly detailed scenes, or studying astronomy. They may show an unusual interest in certain topics such as snakes, names of stars, or dinosaurs. They may very well be very tech savvy, great with computers, web design, programming and things of that nature.
  • We may talk a great deal, usually about a favorite subject. One-sided conversations are common. Internal thoughts are often verbalized.
  • Have delayed motor development. Your child may be late in learning to use a fork or spoon, ride a bike, or catch a ball. He or she may have an awkward walk. Handwriting is often poor.
  • Have heightened sensitivity and become over stimulated by loud noises, lights, or strong tastes or textures

Asperger’s syndrome is a lifelong condition. it become stabilize over time. Adults with Asperger’s generally gather a better understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. We are able to learn social skills and how to read others’ social cues. Many people with Asperger’s syndrome marry and have children.

Autism Symptoms

  • We may have problems developing nonverbal communication skills, such as eye contact, facial expressions, and body posture.
  • Failure to establish friendships with children the same age.
  • Lack of interest in sharing enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people.
  • Lack of empathy; have difficulty understanding another person’s feelings, such as pain or sorrow.
  • Delay in speech, or lack of speech all together, many people with autism never speak.
  • Problems starting a conversation. Also, people with autism have difficulties continuing a conversation after it has begun.
  • Repetitive use of language, often repeating over and over a phrase they have heard previously (echolalia).
  • We may not understand that someone is using humor. We may interpret the communication word for word and fail to catch the implied meaning.
  • Younger children with autism often focus on parts of toys, such as the wheels on a car, rather than playing with the entire toy.
  • Seems to be preoccupied with certain topics. For example, older children and adults may be fascinated by video games, trading cards, or license plates.
  • A need for sameness and routines. For example, a child with autism may always need to eat the same foods in the same order, bread, then veggies, then the meat and insist on sticking to the same routine each day.
  • We may also display body rocking and hand flapping

As you can well see many symptoms for both Autism and Asperger’s are very near to being the same other than speech Asperger’s is on the Autism Spectrum as well as the rare condition called Rett syndrome, and childhood dis-integrative disorder and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (usually referred to as PDD-NOS).
