This summer the River To River Festival and The Joyce Theater will present the U.S. premiere of Le Grand Continental by Montral-based choreographer Sylvain mard at the South Street Seaport. This exciting performance brings together 200+ participants of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds dancers and non-dancers alike to perform a contemporary re-imagining of a traditional festive line dance. The spring/summer 12 season at Joyce SoHo features a riveting line-up of the dance worlds most innovative choreographers and companies. Among the highlights: the world premiere of a full-length work by David Gordon that will run for the entire month of June in celebration of Gordons impressive 50-year career as a dance maker; in April, three companies — Alexandra Beller/Dances, skybetter and associates, and Decadancetheatre — will perform in rep; and Chunky Move returns with the New York premiere of a moving solo created and performed by Gideon Obarzanek.
