-->Winter update

Posted on March 4th, 2012 by Dave

Hello everyone,
It’s been a pretty good winter. I am thrilled to have been nominated for a Juno Award and have been busy working on the new recording. Just this week I returned from the Folk Alliance in Memphis where we announced that I’m going to be working with Robyn Boyd at Wooden Ship Productions as my new US booking agent. This means that I’ll be crossing the border more frequently … always fun spacer
Between now and spring I’m going to be touring Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario. Keep an eye out for dates near you.
See you soon,
Dave

Dave Gunning has been nominated for a Juno.

The multiple award-winning recording artist and internationally acclaimed songwriter has eight critically acclaimed CDs to his credit. He has been awarded six East Coast Music Awards out of 15 nominations since 2003 and took home two 2011 ECMA awards for his recording “.. a tribute to John Allan Cameron” alongside four Canadian Folk Music Award nominations.

Gunning has been a finalist in the Great American Song Contest, the USA Songwriting Competition, the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the International Songwriting Contest.

He has returned to the studio and is set to release his second Christmas CD and new recording project this month.
A seasoned performer, Gunning has toured extensively both solo and with his band, performing to sold-out venues, festivals, house concerts and theatres throughout Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Ireland and Denmark.

The Juno Awards webste says this about Gunning: “Engaging and charismatic, Dave’s magnetic gift of captivating audiences is in full display as he continues to tour in support of the latest chapter of a career heading for international recognition.”

The 2012 Juno Awards will be presented April 1 in Ottawa.

-->Dave Gunning – Blog Update January 20, 2012

Posted on January 20th, 2012 by Dave

Hello everyone,

I’m writing this from home.  I’ve been busy here getting ready to start recording my new CD in February.  Working on the new songs has been fun and I’ve even got a celebratory song about cold weather that I co-wrote with Jim Dorie, who’s just put out his second recording of great songs.  I love the seasons and this is certainly the season when when we cooler-climate dwellers have more quality time to sit and think.  The
recording will begin for me in February and then I’m off to Memphis for the Folk Alliance.  From there I’m heading to Edmonton where I’ll begin a run of dates throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Hope you’re all doing well and having a good winter so far.

Thanks,

Dave

N.S.’s Dave Gunning emerges as new artist
By ANDREA NEMETZ Entertainment Reporter

DAVE GUNNING felt a little weird accepting the Canadian Folk Music Award for new-emerging artist Sunday in Toronto.

After all, the Pictou County singer-songwriter has been recording his original music since 1995 and has released nine CDs. He’s also won six East Coast Music Awards since 2003, including two earlier this year for his recording A Tribute to John Allan Cameron.

“But one of the founders (of the CFMAs), Grit Laskin, said I fit the definition of emerging artist perfectly with what I did with the John Allan CD — I quickly emerged on the roots-trad scene,” said Gunning on Monday afternoon, speaking by phone from a car, on the way home from the Halifax airport.

“And there’s lots of people who don’t know me in Nova Scotia and people in Pictou County who don’t know me. Folk artists are constantly being discovered.”

Hopefully, more people will discover Gunning, who also claimed the trophy for traditional singer of the year Sunday. He received four CFMA nominations, tied with folk icon Bruce Cockburn for most nods.

East Coast Music with Bob Mersereau
Tuesday, December 6th

Congrats to Pictou County, NS stalwart Dave Gunning, who was one of the big winners at this year’s Canadian Folk Music Awards, held this past weekend in Toronto. Gunner, as he’s affectionately referred to by pals such as George Canyon, grabbed two trophies, and landed smack-dab on the national radar, where it’s well known he deserves to be recognized. His wins came for Traditional Singer of the Year, and (I always love this one) Emerging Artist of the Year. Given that he’s been emerging since 1997, perhaps it should be called, The Trophy We Should Have Given Him Last Millennium.

Hello everyone,

Thanks so much for the huge support that I’m receiving here.  In the beginning this tribute to John Allan was intended to be a side project between my other recordings.  I thought that it might receive regional support, and yes it certainly did, but I’m pretty blown away by the national recognition that I have gotten from the Canadian Folk community.  I put my heart into doing this record.  It was a very important one to me.  It took many months to figure out the approach with certain aspects of the production and again I would like to acknowledge the support of John Meir, Allie Bennett, Miles Gallagher and JP Cormier for their input.  Thanks so much to the Canadian Folk Music Awards and thanks so much to all of you.

Maybe we’ll catch you at one of my shows this Christmas.

xo
