Bruce Kern is the Executive Director of the Economic Development Alliance for Business, an organization comprised of local municipal and regional government organizations and over 200 private corporations. In this capacity, he administers the joint public/private effort to address critical issues affecting the competitiveness of the San Francisco East Bay Region.
Mr. Kern is the Chairman of the Government Relations Committee of CALED, founder of the statewide Coalition of Small Business Centers, a Director of the Bay Area Small Business Development Corporation, a member of the Board of Directors for the Corporation of Manufacturing Excellence and the Bay Area Regional Alliance for Business. In 1998, Mr. Kern was the recipient of the Golden Bear Award for his contribution to the advancement of the Economic Development profession in California.
Prior to 1984, Mr. Kern as Director of Planning for the Alameda County Social Services Agency for seven years and Director of Research and Planning for the county's Criminal Justice Planning Board for five yeras. Before joining the County, Mr. Kern worked for the State of California as an Economic Analyst and has done post-graduate study for the government of India.
Mr. Kern holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in business finance and Master of Arts degree in economics. Between 1980 and 1990, he was a lecturer of social planning and public policy at the University of California, BErkeley, in the School of Social Welfare.
Mr. Kern is a native of California, born in the Bay Area.
