The archaic system. An interview with David Rosen of The Parlor Mob.

spacer Parlor Mob was the name of a notorious Hell’s Kitchen gang from the turn of the 20th Century. A street gang that was always fighting for what was theirs. The Parlor Mob, as a band, is no different. Carving their own way in the music industry, doing things that they believe in and not the status quo, is what has separated them from the pack. No pun intended on the pack, as their newest release is titled Dogs. This New Jersey band on Roadrunner Records has a classic rock sound, but is clearly a modern band. With Mark Melicia’s high vocals being a very distinct sound in today’s rock, there is no mistaking The Parlor Mob once you hear them. With a writing style as free as the wind, The Parlor Mob’s sound doesn’t make you take notice, it commands that you listen. Their newest single is Into the Sun and you can catch them on tour with The Pretty Reckless. Continue reading

Who we are. An interview with Anthony Armstrong of Red.

spacer Two time Grammy nominees and Dove Award winners RED are a band that had a meteoric rise to prominence with their debut album End of Silence. Having never let off the gas, RED has just charted their 14th #1 song on the Christian Rock Charts with Who We Are. Who We Are is the fifth single from their latest release, Until We Have Faces. Based in Nashville, TN, the band was formed in 2004. RED has been a band that I have watched closely over the last 6 years. Having seen them perform on small festival stages, to a few club dates, to being a headliner at the Ichthus Christian Music Festival, they never seem to disappoint. With their heavy riffs, melodic, soaring vocals and the accompaniment of strings behind them, RED has created as unique a sound as you will find in music today. If you have the chance to meet the guys, they will welcome you with open arms as well. RED is one of the more accessible bands touring today and the size of their fan base is a true testament to that. They are currently out on the REDvolution Tour and will be continuing to tour through May with P.O.D., Love and Death (Featuring Brian “Head” Welch), and Icon For Hire. You’ll be able to catch them on some big festival shows this summer as well. Continue reading

spacer Birmingham, Alabama is a true melting pot when it comes to musical history. A quick glance and you will find such diverse artists as Tammy Wynette, Ruben Studdard and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster have all called Birmingham home at one time or another. Today, we add to the list of great artists from Birmingham. I’d like to introduce to you recent Tooth & Nail Records signee Nine Lashes. This is a very exciting new band that just debuted at #7 on the iTunes Rock Chart, #5 on the Billboard Heat Seekers Chart, and #3 on the Rock/Alternative Christian charts. You don’t get that quick success without great songs and a unique sound. Nine Lashes is for fans of Breaking Benjamin, Red, Three Days Grace and Thousand Foot Krutch. What they bring to the table though is a bit different. The music itself is heavy and thick. While the lyrics are clever and inspiring. When combined, they create a sonic palette like no other. Nine Lashes is a band we’re happy to get behind and help push them to the top. Continue reading

Twists and sanity. An interview with Dallas Taylor of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.

spacer Maylene and the Sons of Disaster or MATSOD as they are often referred to, is a band from Birmingham, AL that has quite an interesting story. After his departure from Underoath, vocalist Dallas Taylor formed MATSOD in 2004. The band name comes from the legend of the infamous criminal gang, Ma Barker and her sons. The reason that the band was so drawn to Ma Barkers’ story is the ideology that a life lived unjust would be met with divine justice on the other side. They felt it was a tremendous idea to convey as a Christian band. With the late 2011 release of their fourth album titled IV, MATSOD has been on the road touring relentlessly supporting it. Keep your eyes open and do your ears a favor by catching MATSOD on the road. Continue reading
