Rainbow divider is a collection of remixes, rearrangements and deconstructions of an 11 frame, 1 x 600px animated gif. The rainbow divider was a gif ubiquitous in early “dirt style” web pages. It was primarily used as a substitute for the <hr> horizontal rule tag by way of visual and ornamental candy to abbreviate the long downward scroll of paragraphs within text heavy, bandwidth restricted, pages. This project sets out to sculpturally repurpose the gif. Using the spec outlined above as a series of physical guides, the rainbow divider is pulled apart frame by frame and put back together in various combinations of deviation and obedience to its original purpose. Each gif is then offered as embellishment and punctuation to your text.
