Welcome From The Director
Welcome to the website for the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma. While the School is most well known for national leadership in the areas of severe storms, mesoscale dynamics, convective-scale modeling and radar studies, we also cover such research areas such as boundary layer and urban meteorology, climate, data assimilation, tropical meteorology, lightning, cloud physics, dynamics, and even polar studies. The faculty collaborate with hydrologists, researchers working on ecosystem modeling and the societal and economic aspects of weather.
My term as Director started in July 2010. I am proud to join the OU after spending over two decades at the National Center in Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado with sabbaticals at U of Reading, Meteo France and the UN system with the World Meteorological Organization. Coming to the School of Meteorology was one of the best decisions of my professional career.
The facilities here at the National Weather Center are excellent and our co-location with research and operational laboratories of NOAA and OU research centers provides an unparalleled opportunities for research and educational opportunities that often includes internships. The result is an engaged student body with a variety of student organizations with activities that range from advising the Director on the student prospective on education to social functions, talks by experts in our field and community outreach. For more information about the School of Meteorology, please read our fact sheet. -

Prospective Students
The School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma is the largest such program in the nation, with more than 300 undergraduate and 110 graduate students. Is ranked in the top ten of all atmospheric sciences graduate programs in the nation by the Chronicles of Higher Education. The atmospheric sciences in this ranking were broadly defined and, among this elite group, SoM is at or near the top spot in the severe storms, radar, and mesoscale research. For more information about the School of Meteorology, please read our fact sheet. To learn about the department's history, please read about the evolution of SoM.

Alumni
The School of Meteorology has limited general funds and modest scholarship and fellowship funds from which many student educational and professional development needs are met. The only sources of these funds are gifts from alumni and friends. Each year, the requests for assistance far exceed the amounts available.
Support a specific need with a gift of any amount and make a real difference in the lives of current and future students in the School of Meteorology. Examples of the school's needs are found here. Gifts can be targeted to any of these items.

Bryan Conrad - B.S. 2007
SoM provided me the opportunity to work in a fast paced and changing meteorological world. My time at OU, and the knowledge gained, was invaluable to the work I now do in private sector meteorology. Immediately after graduation I interned with the Oklahoma Climate Survey as field tech, then from 2007-2008 I remotely installed and monitored the West Coast Weatherbug network that included over 200 stations, providing weather solutions for 4 MLB teams.
Since 2008 I've been a network technician for Weatherflow Inc. I monitor and install a ....
