First feeling: Yes, it is funny and family is visible. It will work on website.
But’s:
- Will it work on highway billboard? (You don’t have time to think, you need to read it immediately.)
- Could some color change help to logo?

Darwin,
The Internet wasn’t but a twinkle in Al Gore’s eye in the 1970s when this logo was designed. A 40-some year-old logo which holds up under a much evolved (forgive the Darwin pun) 21st century microscope is damn near perfect. Strong strokes, simple type/iconography will translate brilliantly on outdoor applications. Those who cannot read this logo on a billboard are 1) legally blind and 2) shouldn’t be driving.
Please kindly inform yourself before posting. Thank you for your consideration. Chin up, kiddo.

I disagree with Darwin here.
First you don’t have to recognize the play on letters. It’s like a bonus when people get when exploring the logo mark. Just like the hidden arrow in FedEx: It works without noticing it too.
Second, you don’t introduce your startup brand on a billboard. This is a media more used for improving brand-recognition or for new campaigns. So if anybody see this logo on a billboard he/she will probably be familiar with the logo already or else he/she is just not the target of the ad at that moment.
I’m giving another 5 stars to it :)

Herb was a fantastic designer – It’s interesting to see a new generation of designers discover the his work and the work of designers such as Paul Rand, Saul Bass (et al)
Look for his mark for Mother&Child. It’s another classic.
