Easter Festivals, Celebrations, and Traditions

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

spacer Easter celebrations and traditions can vary greatly from cartoon-esque Easter Bunny traditions all the way to extremely solemn religious practices.

The Easter Bunny Cometh

Whereas Easter was undeniably a religious celebration in my house so was the Easter Bunny and the Easter basket that I anticipated every Easter morning. But Easter baskets don’t have to be full of candy and aren’t necessarily just for kids. Personalized Easter gifts in the form of gift baskets can brighten anyone’s day; from Mon or Grandma all the way to business partners and clients. Each basket can be filled with whatever treats or themes the receiver finds most appealing.

The Carrying Of The Cross

Some churches go to the extent of having people lug a giant wooden cross (usually on wheels) down the street and pass out spikes that have been tipped in red paint days before Easter. It may seem a bit maudlin but I have not only heard of these practices but participated in them as well. It’s a harsh reminder of what happened before the resurrection and what Easter is really all about.
Whichever way you choose to celebrate is a personal choice; and has undoubtedly been passed down from generation to generation.

Dressing Your Family Warmly

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

spacer If you live in the UK you’re already more than aware of the temperature and climate. If however, you’re planning on visiting the UK you may want to read on.

General Weather Conditions In The UK

It’s a good thing that Woolovers Knitwear is one of the biggest retailers of pullovers, sweaters, sweatshirts and more because even though summers can be warm in the United Kingdom, and winters are considered mild and cool, an average temperature of 51° F (11° C) in southern areas and 47° F (8.5° C) in northern areas, wool is a good thing to own. The difference between freezing something off and being comfortable can be a simple wool jersey, sweater, cap or scarf.

If UK History Repeats Itself, You’re Going To Need A Sweater

Keeping your family warm back in January of 1982 meant dressing them to be warm enough to survive -15° F (-26° C). Apparently global warming had something to do with the cool spell in 2010 because your family only needed to be prepared for -1.5° F (-18.6° C) in December. And somewhere in the middle, around 1995, multiple sweaters would have been needed thanks to lows of -17° F (-27° C) in the late winter months.
Can you say frostbite?

Celebrating Easter With the Kids

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

spacer Coloring and cutting out Easter bunny decorations can be fun for the entire family; not just the kids. Of course you want to put them up on not only your refrigerator (if there’s any room) but in the windows, on doors and possibly even string those together for Easter garland throughout the house.

Easter Egg Hunts Indoors And Out
Hunting for Easter eggs is a big part of Easter for many children. Weather permitting, having one outdoors is always preferable; with that in mind don’t forget that the pull-apart plastic Easter eggs with some treasure hidden inside of them work better than the real Easter eggs. Coloring the real Easter eggs and putting together baskets for the relatives and friends is a great way for your kids to express themselves artistically and for the whole family to enjoy some together time.

Of Course Eggs Aren’t The Only Thing You’ll Be Eating
Ham, Kielbasa, sweet potatoes, hot fresh rolls from the oven, the little lamb shaped butter in the center of the table, green bean casserole; is your mouth watering yet? The smells and tastes of an Easter brunch, lunch or dinner will fill the house and remind everyone that Easter eggs are just a small part of the delicacies that will be thoroughly enjoyed today.
If you celebrate to the Christian aspects of Easter with your children, don’t forget church.

Solving Parenting Dilemmas Without Tears

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

spacer To help solve problems without the drama, checkout Parenting Clan; a website that assists people in dealing with everything from adoption issues to being a stepparent and handling teenagers.

Most Kids Are Moody

Moodiness is especially popular among teenagers. I say popular simply because many feel that they are expected to act that way; particularly in the presence of their peers. Rebellion is after all, very fashionable. Whining, pouting, sulking and general frustration can affect a child of any age. Just make sure you’re not the one doing it.

How To Get Around The Drama

Here are just a few tips from parentingclan that you can do to tone down the drama: set aside time each day for a complaint session; be sure that your child is getting the nutrition they need; try to keep your home as stress free as possible; don’t overreact–if you stay calm you have a better chance of them staying calm; teach your child proper methods of expression, then see to it that your child feels safe in expressing themselves at home; even though they may fight you or ignore you, be sure to nurture your child.
Hopefully this will help to reduce drama and tears in your household. Many children are being subjected to bullying and online harassment. Know what your child is doing in their private, personal life.
