Mark Twains Adventures out West!
|
You will remember
that the music from Mark Twain and the Laughing River
won the American Library Association Award for 1997. Jim's shows
have appeared across America, as well as Europe, from the
Smithsonian Institute to the English Speaking Theatre in Vienna,
Austria!
Jim Post, who has been performing Mark
Twain and the Laughing River in Galena for the past several
years, is now presenting another fabulous show, Mark Twain's
Adventures Out West. (It was during the years out West that
Twain began his writing career.) The show features Post's new,
original songs, accompanied on keyboard and cello by Janet Post.
Because Twain sang with a beautiful tenor voice and played banjo,
piano, and guitar, and loved to show off at parties, Post is a
natural personification. After attending the performance of Mark
Twain's Adventures Out West, you will believe you have been to one
of Twain's own parties.
Twain's travels in the American West took him
into the timbered forests and mining country of the 1860s. The play
draws from Roughing It, Twain's work which gave birth to the western
novel and western movie. Roughing It is a raw look at the early West
though the eyes of Mark Twain, the first American novelist to
feature the American voice -- that is, the voice of the uneducated,
rural American.
Jim Post takes the audience along on Twain's
adventure to the Nevada Territory. (It was in the Nevada Territory
that Sam Clemens adopted the pen name of Mark Twain.) Twain's
journeys included a trip to Hawaii and employment with the San
Francisco news paper. Join Post for this captivating adventure. Meet
desperadoes, prospectors, and a host of unforgettable characters.
And all along the journey you are accompanied by matchless wit and
wisdom of Twain.
Jim Post is exhibited in the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame. (You may have heard his hit song, "Reach Out of the
Darkness," featured on television this fall for Milton
Bradley's "Get-Together Games.") Post has produced over
twenty folk albums and is well-known throughout the mid-West.

"This elfin troubadour, in whom are
married Irish tenor, revival sermonist, and hillbilly bluesman a
la Jimmie Rogers, works upon his audience like a preacher, and is
able to control the energy in the room without lapse for the
entire duration of the performance." Billboard
"Post is one of the Midwest's great
treasures." Chicago Tribune
"Jim Post is a one man tour de
force---part musical, part drama and thoroughly
entertaining." The Washington Post
