Scottish Fiddle Player, Composer and Teacher

"Reid's single solo vocal is as bonny as her pretty face, and as for her fiddle-playing, it's a long time since I have heard something that makes me so astonished." Karl Dallas

Feb 12: Contours of Cairngorm: Perth, Saturday 25th February 2012

An excellent opportunity for string players in Perthshire: Originally performed at Celtic Connections 2011, Contours of Cairngorm brings together four of Scotland’s most celebrated traditional musicians: Perth musician Patsy Reid, pianist Mhairi Hall, guitarist Michael Bryan and percussionist Fraser Stone. The music, specially orchestrated by Patsy and Mhairi for the renowned Edinburgh Quartet, successfully showcases traditional Scottish music, whilst combining classical approaches to performing and learning.
Thanks to financial assistance from Enterprise Music Scotland, the successful applicants will assume the role of the string quartet, learning the art of ensemble playing at the forefront of the Scottish music scene. The experience will be extremely beneficial to all bowed string players interested in experiencing traditional music from a classical approach or vice-versa. As a result, instrumentalists from both backgrounds would find the process highly challenging, rewarding and enjoyable.

March 11: The Cecil Sharp Project

I was delighted to be asked to be involved in this exciting collaborative project, masterminded by the Shrewsbury Folk Festival team. My fellow Sharpians were Caroline Herring, Leonard Podolak, Andy Cutting, Jackie Oates, Steve Knightley, Kathryn Roberts and Jim Moray. Basically we were taken to a beautiful and remote farm in Shropshire, where we stayed for a whole week, studying and analysing the collected works and diaries of Cecil Sharp in Appalachia. Our remit was to produce a show, consisting of new and old material, showcasing our findings on the great man and his work. Natuarally, lots of fun and good music was had and I am genuinely honoured to have been involved with such lovely people. We performed the show at the Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury and then in Cecil Sharp House in London. We have another opportunity to perform the music at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival in August and that is officially my favourite English Folk Festival and well worth the trip!

Feb 11: Lots of new collaborations at Celtic Connections

I had an other amazing Celtic Connections festival and had the opportunity to work with lots of amazing people and musicians! First up was the opening concert with fantastic Indian musicians Zakir Hussain, Kumaresh, Rakesh Chaurasia, Navin Sharma joined my myself, Michale McGoldrick, John Joe Kelly, Charlie McKerron, Matheu Watson, Jenna Cumming and Ross Ainslie. I had an absolute ball and am still buzzing from the gig! Another exciting new project was Ewan MacPherson's Rough Coast Audio which was performed at the Old Fruitmarket. It was another opportunity for me to form some new musical relationships with another lovely and talented bunch: Ewan MacPherson, Conrad Ivitsky, Matheu Watson, Anne-Sofie Valdal, Jonathan Bews, Siobhan Miller, Naomi Harvey, Magnus Lundmark and Maeve MacKinnon. I also had a lovely gig in St. Andrews in the Square with Joy Dunlop, also featuring Paul Tracey and Susan Appelbe. The final fling was the Unusual Suspects in the Old Fruitmarket, which was my second gig with the band. What a fab night!
