For decades, hip hop producers and deejays have laid the foundation for some of the world’s most popular music, yet they seldom get the credit they deserve. For this year’s opening showcase, Decibel will be bringing together four prodigies, each a master of a key ingredient of hip hop production and performance (the turntable, the MPC and the drum kit).

KRUSH began pursuing his solo career after the break-up of the group in late 1991, and soon grabbed people’s attention as the first DJ to use turntables as live instruments, doing free sessions with live musicians on stage. Aside from his activities as producer, remixer and DJ, he constantly expands his field from soundtracks for films, TV dramas & commercials to live sessions with various musicians that transcends music genre.

Abraham Orellana, better known as “AraabMuzik” is an American hip hop record producer of Dominican and Guatemalan descent. Known to use MPC as an instrument, AraabMuzik’s production style relies heavily on samples cut up and chopped on the MPC drum machine, alongside fast paced drum patterns involving rapid hi-hats and powerful kick drums, sampling beats ranging from electro to trance.

Beat-driven and given to richly textured sound design, rhythmically fractured but melodically sumptuous, Shigeto’s music is a bridge between the past and present, bringing the artist face to face with a creative legacy that spans decades. Cool shades of ambient music, stuttering early IDM, dubstep sub-bass, and jazz melodicism color Shigeto’s palette, which he wields with a painterly attention to detail.

Marley Carroll is a prodigious multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ. The beginnings of his musicianship sprang from training in piano, percussion and scratch DJ technique.
