The Maine Loon Project
Common Loons are one of Maine’s most charismatic wildlife species, representing to many the wild and remote nature of much of our great state. The Maine Loon Project has worked for decades to assess the status and future of Maine’s loon population, from annual loon counts to advocacy in the state legislature, staff and volunteers have worked to promote clean water, healthy lakes, and quality habitat for loon populations today and into the future.
What Can I Do?
There are several ways to get involved with loon conservation and the Maine Loon Project at Maine Audubon. Join our annual loon count, assess the habitat quality of a local lake or pond, monitor a loon pair throughout the summer, or get active with our Grassroots Advocacy program and speak up for loons and clean water in the legislature.
