Many of his books are considered modern classics, including Carrie (1974), The Shining (1977), The Stand (1978), Cujo (1981) and Misery (1987). His novels have garnered honors from the Horror Writer’s Association, the O. Henry Awards and the World Fantasy Awards. In 2003, King won The National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
