Stephen King’s extraordinary career continues with Lisey’s Story (2006), an intimate novel Michael Chabon praises as a “fantastic kingdom, with its own geography and language.”

The author of more than 50 worldwide bestsellers, King’s recent books are Cell (2006), Dreamcatcher (2001) and On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft (2000). Many of his books are considered modern classics, including Carrie (1974), The Shining (1977), The Stand (1978), Cujo (1981) and Misery (1987). His novels have garnered honors from the Horror Writer’s Association, the O. Henry Awards and the World Fantasy Awards. In 2003, King won The National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.

King possesses an incredible sense of story, and shores it up with a backbone of deeply felt characterizations. Along with his darker novels, his short stories and essays reveal a gifted writer of intensely felt emotions, a soulful writer in control of a spare prose that never gets in the way of the story.
