Thousands of years ago cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten
this. V V |
A visiting Persian cat, lying sleepily against a bush. I can't resist the photo.
I'm about 20 feet away, but it waits patiently while I adjust the camera,
stand firmly, and

Seconds later I take a shot again, hoping to get at least one good photo of the
beautiful creature. I do. But
it's so bored it falls asleep! I love photography!

"Sun Dog"
Ever see a sun dog?
One of natures' flings of glory, they appear rarely and for a very short
time. The sun reflects off ice crystals in a cloud in just a certain way -
and there you have it. The one at right I barely caught, having gone out our
back door, saw this
beauty above me, and raced for my camera.

ARTISTS STATEMENT |
The world of animals has been a source of humor, wonder and happiness all my
life. Raised on an isolated ranch in Wyoming state, I saw more
animals in my young life than humans - they were my source of solace, amusement
and entertainment.
(Photo
at left was taken near Oshoto, Wyoming in about 1970. It is actually one of a
set of twin mule deer fawn, the other twin being a normal color)
My first artwork, at the age of six, was a series of drawings of the
adventures of a "wild" horse. This with advice and encouragement from my first art teacher, my mom,
a born naturalist.
In the late 1980's my husband bought me a small oil
painting kit, complete with canvas - etc. So, very slowly, began my adventure
into the world of art.
In the following years, working in oil as a self taught
artist, I began with
landscapes. With more good fortune, I had (and have) a close friend who was/is
an artist, and who had
been taught by her Mother, a professor of art at the Houston College of Fine
Art.
I then ventured into art classes with fine artist
Chuck Ceraso at The
Denver Art Museum.
As I absorbed newfound skills and knowledge, I continued with my chosen
field of landscapes - but felt and
knew they were empty without the antics of wildlife in them. Never hesitating
again, I began the joy of adding animals to my art. Now natures creatures find
their way into my paintings as often as not.
I find the world of
animals takes us to the primitive and away from the hectic world we live in. All
the beasts of the world keep us in touch with wonders we can only dream of.
