Activities

The New Spectrum Foundation is proud to support a number of organizations active in arts, culture and philanthropy.  Some of the supported organizations and activities include

> The Switchboard Music Festival, a new-music event in San Francisco.  The 2010 event is on March 28th at Dance Mission Theater, located at 3316 24th Street; Mission is the near cross street.

> Bang on a Can, based in New York City.  Their annual marathon and summer music festival play critically-important roles in the development and advancement of new music.  Their associated record label, Cantaloupe Music, is a key channel for active, innovative composers and performers.

> MATA Festival, an organization that delivers several important new-music events in New York City, including their annual festival.

Additionally, Foundation personnel are directly involved in several projects, including
1) An Internet radio station focused on new music, with an emphasis on currently-active composers
2) Hosting of new-music concerts
3) Design, construction and operation of a multimedia installation

Currently, the multimedia installation has an in-ceiling array of 256 Philips Color Kinetics LED units, each with 15 RGB elements.  The array is controlled either with a software/hardware platform from Philips or with Max/MSP/Jitter from Cycling ’74 .  The Max program works with input both from external controllers as well as real-time musical signals, either via MIDI or as processed through the ~yin program from the IRCAM Software Forum .

The first set of videos form this project is of guitarist Nic Roozeboom, who performs both as a soloist and as a member of the experimental band Fractal.  They may be viewed as follows:
