At the tender age of eight years, Stefanie Kölbel learned the technique of bobbin lacemaking which is still very popular in the Vogtland region. She crafts her delicate pieces of jewelry from ultra-thin stainless steel wire and hand-dyed polyamide threads which enable her to create flexible structures and voluminous shapes. In the process, a line evolves into a surface, and a surface evolves into a three-dimensional piece. The bobbin technique makes for transparency and lightness. The result of the ultra-fine materials and her accomplished crafting technique are eminently filigreed treasures whose value cannot be defined by the materials but much rather by the amount of time required to handcraft each individual piece. The “450 Leaves” necklace and the “Strips” rings won the Form 2010 award at the Tendence fair in Frankfurt.
