Symposium on "20 Years of Progress on Radar Altimetry"

The Symposium on "20 Years of Progress in Radar Altimetry" organised by the European Space Agency and the French Space Agency, CNES, will be held over 6 days, from 24 to 29 of September 2012, in Venice-Lido, Italy.
Several related events will take place on the same week, including the annual meeting of the Ocean Surface Topography Science Team (OSTST), the next International DORIS Service (IDS) workshop as well as other thematic workshops , such as, Sea Level for Climate, Coastal Zone, Space for Hydrology, Argo, etc.

The IDS workshop (24-26 September) will provide a forum to review the progress in the DORIS technique and provide perspectives for the contributions of DORIS to GGOS.

IGS Multi-GNSS Experiment

Due to the availability of new additional GNSS signals and new constellations on the horizon, IGS is preparing for the next phase in its evolution to eventually generate products for all GNSS available.
In order to achieve this a Call for Participation in the IGS Multi-GNSS Experiment has been issued.

Publication of the Melbourne proceedings in the IAG Symposia Series

Following the IUGG General Assembly in Melbourne, a volume of peer-reviewed proceedings will be published by Springer in the IAG Symposia series.
This time, all submissions and all reviews will be handled electronically through the following Web site: iags.edmgr.com/

Modern Geodesy: Formula 1 Geospatial

Chris Rizos, new president of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), is advocating modern geodesy' and a stronger, more visible role for the IAG. GIM International met Rizos in an early June Cape Town, where he was addressing a crowd of South African surveyors at AfricaGeo.

The GOCE Geoid

After the second year on orbit, the ESA's GOCE satellite collected enough data to model the Earth's gravity field with unprecedented precision.

The new geoid was introduced at the 4th International GOCE User Workshop held at the TU Mnchen, Munich, Germany.

Prof. Reiner Rummel said, "We see a continuous stream of excellent GOCE gradiometry data coming in. With each of the two-month cycle, our GOCE gravity field model is getting better and better."
