Gnome Shell 3 has been my favorite from the day one it was released. Even my wife found it cool. It is becoming more and more useful with the new extensions being added at an unprecedented rate. I have switched my desktop to KDE and Gnome Shell 3 so that I can get my work done without being interrupted by the inconsistent UI design. While KDE offers immense customization (you can do almost everything in KDE), Gnome shell is fast approaching there.

Red Hat Appoints New Fedora Project Leader
Red Hat has appointed Robyn Bergeron as the next Fedora Project Leader. Robyn will replace Jared K. Smith who is stepping down as the FPL. Jared replaced Paul W. Frields in 2010 as the project leader for Fedora.

Gnome 3 Extension: Disable Automatic Screensaver For YouTube
Sometimes we get used to problems so much that we never think there can be a solution. This week I was watching some YouTube videos -- SetIndia's Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur on my laptop. But, Gnome 3 was putting my display to sleep automatically. The only option I had was to turn off the automatic screen off.

Fedora 14 Resigns, Reaches End Of Life
Fedora 14 reached its end of life for updates and support on December 09, 2011. Now there will be no further updates, including security updates, for Fedora 14. If you are still using Fedora 14, you must upgrade to the latest version of Fedora which is Fedora 16. The Fedora Project wiki contains instructions on how to upgrade from a previous release of Fedora to a version receiving updates.

Back In Time, Automatic Back-Up Tool For Linux
Linux distros such as Fedora, openSUSE and Ubuntu have quite a lot of data back-up tools which allows a user to back-up their data with greater ease. One such tool is called 'Back In Time'. The project description says, "Back In Time is a simple backup system for Linux inspired from “flyback project” and “TimeVault”. The backup is done by taking snapshots of a specified set of directories."
